There is a game rule that every unique item can drop only once per game. I never understood why and I dont like that and I think it should be changed. I dont see any negatives related to that. It could bring new rare situations where you for example find two shakos from one mephisto.
I think this is a myth, I know I have seen 2 of the same, crappy unique, drop in a game…
Its not myth. Its in the game, i experienced it few weeks ago.
Also never found same item in game for 25 years so… not a myth 100%.
I dont think I have ever seen this proven though… Documented from Blizzard, Id love a blue post on it.
I have no counter, but I am damn sure Ive seen the same unique broad sword a couple times mowing through the game in the past.
I am telling you , its in the game. I experienced it myself few weeks back, I was d2 modder I tested it in original too. Its in game, idk why it should be myth.
Its nothing mysterious, its normal well known game mechanic.
So you experienced getting a unique item only once in a game? Hmm, that doesn’t sound like confirmation bias at all, naah.
Seriously though, I also remember reading about this somewhere once. In my opinion, the uniques could just as well be called legendaries. After all, the SoJ was SO unique, that it got made into a currency.
Look, I hear you, Ive heard it talked about too, but never once confirmed by Blizzard, just players like yourself who mod or play a ton…
You seen the source code with that in there?
I agree its a dumb mechanic though and should go away if its a fact.
Its not in the game anymore since a long time, forgot which patch it was, but its gone.
Btw. how do you experience something not happening?
It is a soft coded function of the game. A simple raw text edit of a value in the unique.txt file will allow you to have items drop more than once per game.
It is not myth, it’s just impossible to prove in-game without editing.
I experienced that game mechanic.
The way it works is that if second item will drop which should be unique, you will instead will get item with triple durability. And shorty i found Gull dagger another dagger dropped and it had triple durability so it clearly is in the game.
You didnt forgot becuas it was never changed and still is in the game, explanation how i experienced it is above in my frist responsine in this post.
It is possible and and I did
Lol, thanks Zax. I would’ve done so myself but I’m kind of half-tilted by a really bad headache and cannot be arsed to find out where I put all of my modding tools at.
i may have confused that with uniques not being able to drop if already present in game, which was definetly removed
Nah, this is unnecessary. I’d rather not want to find the same item twice.
Huh, I actually didn’t know that, but c’mon, you gotta admit that premise sounded funny. I couldn’t help but post something sarcastic.
That orange box you’re hiding beneath has clouded your judgement, Snek. It’s okay to come out from it now.
…
…
Snek?
SNEK?
SNEK!?
Hey, Zax, I do believe the triple durability is actually if the item should have rolled let’s say an Arachnid Mesh, but the monster dropping the Spiderweb Sash is too low to drop the unique. If the game was going to roll it as unique, it ends up as a rare with the added durability.
However, I do want to add, that I’m with you, I seem to remember this was a rule. If Stone of Jordan drops or gambles, that’s it for that game instance.
HMMM. i could have sworn i got 2x nagel drop with the same stats from meph once.
And 2x soj from andy once
Haha nah, cant be I would guess many people would think it but reality is they didnt. I had that memory few times also but I simply didnt remember it properly.
Yer must have been a memory fart then
They are fine as they are not unque items.
I wonder what would happen if you kill diablo clone in same game twice.
