A friend of mind recently made a last wish Berserker Axe and he let me try it out on my Barbarian. Im wearing Gores so i was expecting to see Crushing Blow to go up to 80 as his last Wish is 65 crushing blow but it did not. Im wearing Grief Ber Axe in main hand so my WW speed is not slowed down from last wish. My question is does the off hand pick up the extra procs from the weapon because it is not showing right now. When i move last wish to main hand it shows the 80 crushing blow. Is this a bug or is there something i do not understand here. So when im WW with my barb am i doing 80% crushing blow or 15% since Grief is on my main hand.
There were some off hand display issues going on in earlier versions, I think.
When I was first leveling my barb I was using Malice and Steel and noticed that the %OW only showed whatever was on main-hand.
Recently I started a new barb and he’s using Headstriker, and I notice that the %DS bonus from that shows up regardless of which hand it is in.
I think in general mods like that on weapons only apply with the weapon actually being used to attack, at least for Frenzy, so things like CB, Leech, DS, OW, etc. will only proc when Barb is using that weapon.
For WW though this is what Arreat Summit has to say:
When dual-wielding, both weapons try to score a hit against the target. In other words, the game does a hit-check for each weapon. Since both weapons are given the chance to score a hit, the damage done over time is roughly the sum of the damage of both weapons, which is comparable to the damage done whirling with a two-handed weapon. The effect of weapon speed in dual-wielding Whirlwind is as follows. While a target is in range, one of the weapons’ speed is constantly used to calculate the next hit-check frame. If there’s no target in range, the game will alternate between weapon speeds to calculate the next hit-check frame. The best way to make sure you have maximum Whirlwind speed when dual-wielding is to use weapons that both reach the final breakpoint, like for instance a Lightsabre phase blade and a colossus blade with 40% IAS.
So as a tangent to your question using Grief BA in main hand and LW BA, you would alternate between hit checks at the 2nd 1H WW BP (LW) and the 3rd or 4th 1H WW BP (Grief BA) depending on the %IAS roll of Grief. BA needs >=34% IAS to hit the last 1h WW BP of -34 since it’s base speed is [0]. So I don’t think main/off matters for WW in terms of it determining hit checks since it will use both.
I think that then would work like any other dual wield attack where whatever weapon happens to score the hit gets the bonuses. So if you do a hit check and each weapon scores a hit, you would be basically hitting with both at once, and get the full 80% CB. If only Grief scores a hit then I think you’d be only getting the CB from Gores, and if only LW scores a hit then you’d be getting the full 80% CB again.
However, since both Grief and LW have ITD they basically “always” hit, so I’d think that you would therefore always hit with both each time the game does a hit check, and you should be getting the full 80% CB.
Whether or not the extra CB and Might Aura is enough to outweigh the fact that the slower weapon will limit your total hit checks with WW I’m not sure, but you should be able to use a D2 attack speed calculator to figure out attacks per second and calculate out Damage per Second to see where you are at.
The above is my guess by reading the Arreat Summit documentation and my other in-game knowledge through the years, but I haven’t done any actual testing, and could be interpreting things incorrectly, so someone might come along to correct that.
Thank you! for taking the time to explain this to me! Greatly appreciated friend!!!
