Proposal of Additional Benefits to Upgrading Items

With so many unique Items in the same going unused after a brief period of low-mid level, it would be good to see a renewed utilization of such items by providing additional enhancements to said items when utilizing the cube-upgrade; item stats could improve beyond the original stat, based on level of upgrade - normal to exceptional - exceptional to elite. This would open up more build choices and bring more fun/variety into the game.
