Private servers are a big problem

When will Blizzard be able to ban private servers such as POD or PD2? They use Blizzard’s

resources with impunity to make money as well as steal Diablo 2 players.

While technically, Blizzard could go after these mod servers, they have instead, embraced them. Blizzard would win nothing, and lose more than they would gain by doing something about mod servers of an old game. People that play these mod servers devoutly, would probably not even purchase or play D2R anyways. Many Diablo fans play both; the OG mods and remastered version of the game.

However, if someone were to do these things with D2R, they would probably find cease and desist at their doorsteps. Blizzard also sees the fact that D2 has received a decent chunk of popular mods over the years, as a reason D2 has stayed relevant and alive in modern times. While certain communities might take offense to that, and lay personal claim to that title, one can not argue that the Median series of mods has been very long lived (which wouldn’t happen without a devout enough playerbase), Plugy being the best way to experience OG Single Player, and newer mods such as PoD and PD2 as very well received amongst the non-devout OG Bnet players.

If D2 or D2r were half as good as private servers, they wouldn’t have to worry about private servers stealing D2 players.

i actually think blizzard should stop messing around and go after Path of Exile for copyright claim. Then use Path of Exile for Diablo 4 and make a double game.

That won’t happen there’s no copyrights to go after.

Not sure how u even think this is even possible legally.

I think blizzard should add a realm selection option to d2r so I can choose between bnet, pod, and pd2.

This is the best idea on the forum right now.

I hope Blizz reimplements TCP/IP sometime so that we have the option of modded multiplayer, among many other benefits.

yeah the world doesn’t work that way

i mean even path of exile said the copied diablo 2 and EVEN ADVERTISED IT AS A DIABLO 2 CLONE EXTENSION.

Sorce for that. Been playing poe for yrs. Never once have I heard this.

What I have heard and read is.

They based it off of what D2 is. Which Chris Wilson has said in a GDC conference. Him and the founders of poe where HUGE fans of D2. And they used there love of D2 to create poe. Using d2 as inspiration is not copying D2.

They also had David brevik for a bit as an advisor.

There is no legal ground for blizzard to stand on when it come to copyrights. Cuz if that was the case. Blizzard could go after the devs of darkstone. But legally they cannot.

Keep in mind that companies do strangest things to market there product. Does that mean they copied D2 no it doesn’t.

O…ya that reply totally highlights you are completely out of your mind.

These guys were right yikes.

They also make better features which one day blizzard will steal and implement in their games (they’ve already stolen quite a few for this ladder patch). They have filters for joining games and the game windows don’t just show 30 minute old games. They also moderate bots and diminish the use of jsp and have a better trading system. They also roll back servers when someone dupes 200 ber runes.

Honestly blizzard needs to allow them on D2R so they can straight up copy and paste the code they use to do useful things like stack runes and gems.

Any of my friends who actually played Pd2 and used to play LOD back in the day won’t play D2R anymore. But they won’t play PD2 anymore now that they’ve seen the graphics. They’d sell more copies if they allowed private servers. That’s a fact. Problem is no one would be playing D2R besides bots, but when MS takes over I’ll bet it happens.

sadly, it seems none of you played the beta a decade ago. must be new poe players or something and dont remember.

Dont forget Hellgate: London!

look at my face. L)OOK AT ME

I am not joking.

Blizzard should force all private servers to shut down.

Now those private server players are laughing at the slow update of Diablo 2R.

Are you literally dumb? There’s no subscription for D2, so you’re not circumventing payment to Blizzard by playing on a private server, you bought the game, it’s yours, you can do with it whatever you want.

PD2 and to a lesser extent PoD is the reason why 20 year old CD-Keys are selling on Bnet.

No u cannot. D2 still has an EULA and a ToS.

U also do not own the game. Ur money bought u the licenses which gives u the rights to play it. Not own it.

I’d love that… because it would keep all the PD2/PoD fans from ruining my D2.
