PC + controller = pickit

this game is so broken

There are many of us that have been saying this from the start, but pickit is also free, and grabs based on name, so things vanish before their names even show up. It’s gotten so bad I dont wanna play public games any more, which is a really big problem.

I use a controller and I am playing the same way I played with a KB/m. The main difference I see with the controller is that I can control my movement speed which is a huge boon. As far as item grabbing goes, they need to adjust the behavior. Anything that is unfair needs to be addressed.

I can’t believe they released the game without stopping the hack programs.
If you can’t stop them then why not just build pickit and maphack into the game ?

No one is talking about a hack program. They are referring to the ability for a controller to grab items before they hit the ground.

LOL! Cause there’s another way to fix ninja looting beyond personal loot? Grow up.

Actually someone two posts above us is talking about pickit.
And I am as well.
Didn’t you notice?

Have you tried a controller for D2R? Having access to your 12 one-button press skills/actions is great.

Do you know what would solve this. issue? Timed loot.

I was told that FFA was the best loot system and that I should learn to click faster, when I suggested an optional fairer loot system. Now you want to delay others since you can not compete.

There is a certain irony.

There is a difference between an ADDED feature breaking the game and a gamer being too slow to collect loot.

But yet another PLoot advocate waiting to pounce with a frail retort. The irony.

The CORRECT way to solve the issue, is test the difference and balance the timing. Considering controller support was ADDED and caused this.

It is not a frail retort. Many inherent factors impact FFA loot that players can not control, break immersion, or discourage multiplayer gaming for many. FFA loot was always problematic. It has been complained about for 20 years (even David Brevik has commented on this). Some prefer FFA loot while others definitely not.

The correct way to solve this is to add an optional loot system. Controller support on PC is here to stay. Blizzard has made it clear that it is an advertised accessibility feature for PC. Even Rod Fergusson and his brother player through the game with a controller.

No I haven’t tried a controller on D2:R on PC. But I have seen people complaining controller is like a pickit cause they can pickup the items from a boss before it touches the ground. That is a bummer

There are tradeoffs. A mouse is far better to get loot from a loot pile (e.g. throne room waves). Do you think that PC players need a delay so that controllers can get an equal chance at that gear? If you want to add a delay on controller, then it should be for all drops so that mouse does not have an unfair advantage over controller for almost all non-boss drops.

It sound like your suggestion of timed loot like you suggested on twitter would be much more fair for all.

Hva er bra for gÄsen er bra for gander?

it depends. if you set the delay for reactiontime and aiming at the minimum that would already be a advantage/tradeoff. minimum for reactiontime is 100ms, meaning controllerplayer would not need any skill in that and would already be at the top. that would already be enough compensation for their disadvantage at grabbing items from mobs. but there should also be a delay to simulate aiming, and that should not only be higher than 100ms, but also be applied in between grabs (to prevent vaccum grabbing).

Have you ever used a controller to play D2R? How easy is it to pick up specific loot in a loot pile? Controllers are at a huge disadvantage over mouse for almost all drops in the game with the exception of boss drops.

If the idea is “delay” controllers to interfere with getting boss drops then it would be even worse for controllers to target specific non-boss drops. If you want to introduce a delay, it needs to be for all drops. For example, one could keep FFA loot but not have the item collectible for 1 sec.

boss loots and looting a pile of normal monsters are not the same worth. 20 baalruns to get to lvl 40 at ladder restart would almost equip a controller player fully for nightmare. the same amount for cowruns not even closely. also, saying flat delay value for all drops neglects that controller players don’t anymore require skill in terms of reactiontime and aiming.

It is not just normal monsters that controllers have issues with. It is all cases where there is a pile of loot on the ground. In general, you kill way more non-boss monster than bosses. How many monsters/named uniques do you kill before getting to diablo in a chaos run? You have to kill five waves of monsters including multiple named uniques before entering the final room to kill Baal.

Controllers only have an advantage for well separated big bosses that drop loot.

For almost all elite packs, controllers struggle mightily. Good luck trying to collect good drops during a cow run or from the cow king with a controller if in game with m/k user. Good luck collecting drops from countess with all the drops from her/her minions, good luck during chaos runs for every baddy besides diablo, good luck getting drops from the throne of destruction, the list goes on and on

If you want to make loot collection painful for controller players, just grab a bunch of worthless gear and drop it in front of Baal. You will quickly see that controller players can not target drops and are at a huge disadvantage for almost all aspects of loot collection.

So basically it’s the same as it always been. Public runs were always pointless if you didn’t have the best pickit installed (which I never used)

Lmao, that would be funny, better yet, all 8 players dropping junk right before boss dies cause they think someone is using a controller would be epic! :joy::joy:

If you really want to mess up the controller “pickit” crowd, then open a portal on top of the boss right before they die. The person will port back to town and get nothing.

I say this as someone who uses a controller.

Or you could use a controller, too. Even if just for the pickups. Then it levels the playing field, and everyone is grabbing random stuff they haven’t even seen yet. Maybe someone will get lucky or maybe you’ll all get garbage blues – or the best drop, town portals and gold.

Maybe that’s how loot should be to begin with - everyone’s inventory randomly gets an item. Not that much different from 8 people all clicking furiously, except everyone’s guaranteed one item. And it’s still the same drop table, so your random item could be a lovely new scroll of town portal.

The easiest way to fix this is to add a keyboard keybind for loot like “E” then everyone is on the same playing field. Pickit becomes useless and controllers maintain their single button pickup. Everyone wins.
