D3 was created by different team than d2. I believe guy in charge didnt even played Diablo 2 and this was also one of his staments:
Long-time fans of the series might be interested to hear that early versions of D3 were much closer to Diablo 2 “and we weren’t excited by it. It wasn’t worth releasing.”
Its not about changes, changes are good, but it depends who makes them.
Oh really? If blizzard will fix bug which makes skill useless and bad to use, skill might actualy be pretty viable when fixed. Its bug fix but result can change a lot in character builds.
I am not talking about anything crazy here, some minor changes here and there. I would be more radical but i know many people would go crazy about major skill changes . They still can tweak some skills to make them little bit more usefull.
I honestly dont know what to think about that. I would probably not touch that as changing this would change a lot in build creations and ways how people play. Maybe I would be ok with minor dmg nerf on grief. Enigma? I dont know hmm. I am used to that item too and it provide means of teleportation to other heroes so sorc doesnt have so huge advantage over others in item find.
Many? I dont know one single person playing 1.09 and I know a lot of people who play diablo 2.
Because teleport provide something sorc has, nerf teleport from enigma and sorc will have huge advantage over others again.
Nah I’ve seen a lot of people complaining about being forced to play a sorc because they feel too slow mfing otherwise. I’ve also seen many suggestions on reddit and other places asking for a cooldown on sorc Teleport. These people are nuts. Bring the other classes up, not bring others down, especially when it’s been that way since the original game before the expansion. Plenty of people don’t like enigma and sorc teleport because “teleport is OP”
You kind of proved my point trying to disprove it. This is what all these change advocates are doing now. “Let’s change some things and make it better”.
teleport is a lazy bad skill. add penalties too it, make it use lightning frames, and boom. teleport is STILL hands down one of the best abilities in the game.
I think some people are just looking for a less forgiving version of d2lod. (current teleport is extremely forgiving, there is a reason my 9 year old nephew plays a sorc lmao)
Diablo 2 is extremely forgiving as it is even without teleport. If people want a less forgiving game, go play hardcore and a non-sorc instead of ruining something most people enjoyed for the last 20 years. I teleported to #2 hell baal kill last month with a PD2 sorc, the change didn’t really impede me, just felt more frustrating because D2 tele felt so much smoother and better.
A lot of people still play 1.09. It’s extremely popular in time travel for SP and there was for quite some time a popular modding community on 1.09, though that was a couple years back.
It was also the most populous patch on Bnet. 1.10 shrunk the player base. I can only speak for West and East, but when 1.10 hit, the player base shrunk shortly after, much fewer games on bnet, etc. Tons of people left when ubers and extra easy places to farm like the pit.
When people complain about enigma, they’re generally talking about the strength buff. Most people don’t mind the run/walk and teleport, because it’s only about movement. But honestly, there are far more OP rune words to worry about than enigma.
Just wow the OP has the narrowest way of thinking I have seen in a while. I mean jeeze he even knows what people are thinking when they preorder. It amazes me. I guess getting the base game out first never crosses his mind or he trys to make all OG players look stupid or something. Very narrow thinking and cringy.
Patch 1.07 came with the introduction of Lord of Destruction expansion which was created in one year from the original release of the game. After that, changes to skills in patches became much more frequent. Part of the reason for that was that they were fixing problems introduced with 1.07 and LOD due to inadequate testing and unforeseen impacts on the core game.
Along with LOD came the introduction of Runewords which substantially changed the game for better or worse. Runewords instantly made some of the best (and most valuable) items in the game obsolete and nearly worthless. How you played the game and the entire economy of the game was up ended. Some things were addressed with the subsequent patches but other things were changed forever.
I personally hated (still do really) the introduction of Enigma to Diablo. It took something that was special for the Sorc and gave it to every character in the game. To this day, I still think it was a bad add.
Even with that, I am happy to play LOD because the addition of the other characters were a good add.
The argument that bad skills need to get better is in some ways a trap. There will always be a meta. There will always be favored skills and builds. If you “fix” weak skills then they become the meta and someone starts calling for the new weak skill which were the old meta to get fixed. This results in power creep and more imbalance. If a skill is truly broken then it can be fixed now or in a patch in the future but it needs to be done carefully and tested thoroughly.
Calls to fix bugs and glitches can result in drastic impacts on how some people have been playing the game for years. Do we want to eliminate bugged bosses? Do we want to eliminate glitched rushes? Both of these things raise the enjoyment for some who play the game. Who gets to say what needs to be fixed and what needs to be left alone because intended or not some players like it that way and have played the game that way for years?
The above illustrates how changes, even some that seem minor can potentially have a negative impact on people’s perception and enjoyment of a game, especially one that they have played for many years.
For this reason, I think that Blizzard should resist too many changes in the release version of Diablo II Resurrected. Sure, if something is absolutely broken then fix it if you can within the time allotted. Otherwise, Just resurrect the game with modernized graphics. some convenient quality of life improvements and controller alternatives. Get it out there and then look at fixes and additions in patches and DLC.
I would be happy to see more builds become viable. I want the meta to remain as it is in 1.14, but to bring some skills up a bit so they become apart of viable, albeit slow, builds that can beat hell would be welcome.
I would definitely be for a skill balance, there are so many nice skills that are useless in hell because of the lack of damage. This would also increase the build diversity, I am tired of seeing mostly only hammerdins and lighting sorcs.
