No Legacy Mode in Reign of the Warlock games?

Seems odd this mode would be disabled with the new DLC.

probably because there is no legacy model for the warlock

The more i look at the update the more cracks i see.
Well it was a nice, fever dream, now i’ll go to sleep and try not to think if the warlock has teleport or not… that is an harsh truth for tomorrow.

Its kinda lame that it doesn’t feature legacy graphics for the warlock. Hope they implement it later on.

They should’ve made one.

I didn’t realize you don’t get the legacy toggle in this update. I also thought that the “Expansion” characters would have access to quality of life updates. Feels like I wasted my money a bit.

Legacy mode is just the old engine so no they couldn’t just make one they have the new engine and made a new character they cant just inject the new character and all of its skill graphics into an engine not supportive of it

I sincerely hope they make this happen down the road.

I appreciate sprite creation may not be a skill set currently at blizzard art team.

Creative recycling of existing sprites? Just enough to let the toggle be an option. Demons exist, fire exists, New gear can just be the sprite for the base item for instance. Books can be a small shield. Etc.

I have a CRT monitor and almost exclusively play with legacy graphics. Being able to play legacy graphics with a classic character and the integrated loot filter / item storage really would be nice and very appreciated.

I also would like this to be added down the road. I was neutral to it before, but the more I think about it, ya’ll have convinced me lol. I think they should 100% devote some time to get this added.

I think the obvious reason no resources were dedicated to legacy graphics in this mode is that they are planning future updates around the DLC into an actual expansion with Act 6, and they don’t want to waste time animating everything twice for a niche feature. It was fine to begin with, since launch of D2R was a nostalgia grab on top of the fact that it’s just a wrapper over the original game, thus easy to implement. However, when you begin adding new original content, it doesn’t work out of the box.

its very very simple, blizzard did not want to make the same stuff twice so by disabling the legacy gfx, they ensure that they dont have to develop the same content twice for example an act 6 or other new classes.

It is fairly obvious why this happened

Here’s my guess as to why there is no legacy graphics mode in Reign of the Warlock:

There aren’t enough pixels to cleanly display the information in the updated stash.

yea they left some OG players behind

oops

100%.

They could’ve used placeholder graphics at the very least. I hope this is addressed at some point. I used this feature a heck of a lot, really not happy to see it get dumpstered.

I’m glad to see I’m not the only one bothered by this.

I love all the work they did and the new stuff, amazing job d2r team. I just don’t want to lose features I loved to be able to access it.

Stuck between a rock and hard place with this expansion cause of this issue

There’s no legacy art for the class, that’s the reason.

you know full well that people would not have found this acceptable. It’s better that it’s not there than it being there and half-arsed.

They could’ve used placeholder art. Like a purplish magenta tinted druid for the warlock. All of the warlocks spells that I’ve seen are just pre existing effects.

That ground void effect looks like a large purple fissure lol. Just tint a fissure vent purple and there’s your asset.

but also modders create assets for the old game all the time, it’s not an impossibility

As I said in my post. You know people wouldn’t accept placeholder art. It is better to not include something than include something that isn’t up to the standards of everything else.

Oh there would’ve been complaints still no doubt. But at least it would just be the one class that looks a little cheesy lol

And a lot of people just used legacy mode for multi boxing too… so they would be looked after no matter how the new class looked

They most likely came to the conclusion that very few people actually use the legacy mode other than as a novelty and determined it wasn’t worth the work and cost.
