I thought the point of D2 was a classic good versus evil where the players were supposed to be good fighting against unending evils such as devils and demons to save the world.
Being a scammer or extremely toxic gamer was not the intention of Blizzard North.
I may roll my eyes when a PK’er shows up in one of my CS games, but PK’ing is a ton of fun and it’s an aspect of D2 that makes it unique. Changing this would not be QoL, it would change a fundamental aspect of the game.
Do you honestly think David Brevik and the Schaefer brothers will say: “Being a scammer or extremely toxic was the intention of Blizzard North when we made D2”? Please…
I rhink in this case they would not mind. Certainly, they do not want people thinking that D2 was created with the intent to scam and be extremely toxic.
That will remain a mystery to everyone until they make a public statement about it. Several posters on this forum share the very negative quality of incessantly speaking on the behalf of others. Speak only for yourself please.
Do you honestly think that those 3 would say that they created D2 with the intention of promoting scammers and extremely toxic behavior?
In multiple interviews and gaming panels, they have discussed their motivations. Never ever have they said that there intention in D2 was about promoting scammers and extreme toxicity. You can watch videos of them on youtube to see for yourself.
Now, provide the timed start link of the section to support that they intended for mutual agreement for duels and no PKing or you’re just spamming.
Then rejoice, because once you actually read and comprehend what I’m asking from you, the only logical conclusion is that you do not need to “justify” anything about the creators intentions.
Again, please speak only for yourself. No one made the assertion that the creators intended to promote scamming and ‘extremely toxic behavior.’ That is, by the way, the heavily opinionated label which you came up with.
You might be surprised. A lot of multiplayer games back then featured the freedom to scam and be toxic. Devs and Customer Service reps often responded by telling players it’s part of the game. Especially in games with PK options. Ultima Online was one of the harshest: The intro to the game even informed the player that they had the means in game to settle all their problems…
ZorKA is right, BlizzNorth gave us those options and that freedom. Its highly unlikely that the practitioners of PKing and scamming are concerned about endearing themselves to strangers on the internet. Most people can separate anonymous video game behavior from real life interactions.
