But if you do that, it will boost already OP sorc as character, because she will be only char with teleport.
Full agree 100%.
Nobody should be able to argue otherwise tbh
There are cerain areas that are enriched in immune monsters for a specific element type. Without infinity, many single elemental builds can never kill these monsters themselves. That is bad game design.
There is a difference in strategy of killing a monster slowly versus one that you can not damage at all that you simply skip. Also, I am not fond of the idea of a merc killing things for a player. The player should be able to kill monsters themselves and not rely on a hireling.
Source?
Would like an explanation for all the OP runewords that were introduced with 1.10, while all the 1.09 runewords were quite “bad”.
Mostly things like CTA, Enigma, Infinity and all those cross class skill RWs.
Because I remember people complaining that the game was easy, so they nerfed cow, introduced more immune mobs and buffed them and added synergy + all those OP runewords, so you can be in godmode again after you farmed those RWs.
Infinity doesnt break cold inmunes ir you are playing clod sorc for example. Even light inmunes bosses, you cant always break them
What makes enigma coveted? Hint: teleport.
If you made a mid-tier armor with teleport and nothing else it would be incredibly popular and enigma would have very little significance.
So you have no source. That’s ok, but then please say that it’s only your feeling.
You keep on showing how little you know about the game.
Its not end game gear when every joe blow on battle.net has one tho…this stuff is not as hard to get as most people think…I have the most casual friends that never play decked out in all this HR gear
My source is my recollection from back then. If you want me to go find an interview or comments from old bulletin boards, I have tried on other topucs and discovered that many of the original boards/articles no longer exist on the internet.
I will do a little searching now to confirm if my recollection is true relative to the developers motivations on enigma.
Claiming a runeword with two Ber runes to be indicative of anything game balance related is silly.
Found a source. The 1.10 runewords collectively were added to add some longevity to the game. It was not about restoring god mode as you claimed.
Google oral history diablo 2 david brevik. There is a section on 1.10.
Let me look more and hopefully can find a direct quote about enigma.
P.S. It is not trivial to find specific developer’s thoughts from almost 20 years ago, but enigma was introduced in part to improve non-sorc mobility as I said.
Also recall that the big names had already left Blizzard North a few months prior to patch 1.10 release so it is hard to get their contemporaneous comments because they were no longer at Blizzard. Peter Hu was largely the driving force for 1.10
Personally, I do not think infinity is game balance related. I think its potency highlights the problems with the game design associated with immunities/breaking immunities/skipping.monsters/impact on build diversity in general.
Agreed with the OP, reason why I usually don’t find any interest looking at builds video based on infinity.
I put infinity and enigma (plus some others) in one category: nice to target, nice to dream of, but when I have them I have the feeling that I’ve finished the game as it’s getting too easy, and I get bored. Basically why I don’t trade, to keep the challenge living. Very personal though, I don’t expect that everyone share this feeling.
I will say that, out of all the supposedly OP runewords I’ve used, including Grief and Enigma, Infinity was the only one where I have to periodically check to make sure I’m still on Hell difficulty, because of how quickly everything dies.
That said, I don’t agree that it’s overpowered. If your main source of damage is lightning, you’re severely limited in terms of which areas you can clear with some degree of comfort. Infinity just gives you more options to deal with, and if you’re going out of your way to fight lightning immunes, you still won’t be super fast clearing them even if Infinity breaks the immunity.
Then dont go there and farm elsewhere… you dont need infinitya to MF.
I consider it bad game design to have certain areas that you do not go because one can not kill the monsters there.
Please stop with the “neef” argument, since you do not need to play D2R/D2 or any video game for that matter.
Thats only light sorc because javazon and tesladin can both farm pit just fine as they have also physical dmg.
It is not bad game design, it is bad character build - as I keep repeating on this here forums.
I doubt people will accept -11 levels nerf to conviction.
I think preventing immunity break from “aura when equipped” stats is a fair middleground. It will still worth 2 ber inside it, but people will not feel forced to use one.
I call it diversity because different character and build are doing runs in different location. Some excel in certain places, others in different ones.
