I haven’t played ladder in literally over a decade. It’s only competitive for so long before it gets redundant. Considering there is no real reward for the work one puts into ladder chars to begin with when there should be in some form, I don’t feel that ladder ever offered anything of real worth. Not even bragging rights. It does suck that it is broken for those who chose to play it. I prefer offline single player any day of the week.

The reward aspect is quite boned.
Other games reward ladder placement with unique stuff. At the very least in-game items that already exist.
They could have given some runes that are higher quality for top levels.
A Zod for a SOLO level 99 would have people scrambling to play ladder. A cosmetic aura in Season 2 for having a level 99 From Season 1 would also make people jump on Ladder.

I even think there should have been something of actual value behind collecting ears as well. I used to kind of like dueling but In the early days. Had a heck of a beast for a barb too. Collected all kinds of level 99 ears as a level 95. The only thing they did was take up space though. I understand that it’s not the reason for dueling. But it’s kind of like the token from Uber trist. Just a space taker. It’s not like I’m going to sit there with an ear, and remember the time… nor will I look at the token and be like ooooh man… il never forget the Torch I got, and use… hahaha hell even if they were sellable. 5 mil for the token. 5 grand an ear, cause repairs are only free if you have the runes for the recipe.
Am I being a baby? 
I’m just pointing out the obvious. Not really a complaint. I just believe, things that exist as space takers should atleast have use in some form.

I just dont feel that it’s as fun as it used to be. I liked having a lobby and having games you could join to trade or give or get gear and stuff. 40 pgems for midrune ect.

ive basically all but stopped playing online since i cant even get any trades going anymore with high end gear on the 3rd party site i use since in game trading is crap…
i just switched to single player hardcore and am enjoying it more than playing online, because i can adjust the difficulty for better experience and drops…
its disappointing in the extreme and has killed any intention i had of purchasing diablo 4 unless its less than $10…

This has honestly been the best ladder experience I’ve had in D2 since they gave consoles their own ladder. I actually feel like I have a chance to compete on it.
My only gripe right now is the lack of lobbies and not being able to type out messages. So very needed. Other than that, love love love D2R on Switch.

Sounds like they’re trying to crack down on cheats/mods/hacks and the like (d2jsp) so, not really surprised about LAN play being excluded. Even offline appears it’s being regulated with offline cross progression being non-existent.
I think you guys are missing the point of ladder which is to start a fresh economy where everyone is at an equal position, the climb is just a bonus.
It just adds more replayability.
And if they add more exclusive ladder content in the future, possibly bosses, it’ll be even more of a big event.
I think you are the one missing the point. The climb is the purpose of ladder. Which is why they named it ladder. The economy reset is so that people can start the race on equal footing.

except its not equal footing at all unfortunately for anyone on consoles.
we lack lobbies, a proper trade system that doesnt require a 3rd party and ability to exp farm with groups in things like baal. chaos, arcane runs.
like i said above, ive switched to single player because i just dont see the point really to online anymore which is extremely disappointing.
