AVX issues (people still cannot play this game, some of my friends included)
Game crash issues
Many, many core gameplay bugs (don’t tell me these are intended features, because the devs claimed they would not change the core gameplay)
Significant quality of life features not up to par, such as Stash space and limiting chars
Poor Lobby chat
Non-existent Trade chat for lobby (let alone actual trade features)
Poor game search/filter functions
Console player multiplayer lobbies do not work
Character model fiasco
The fact that people are enjoying this game is a testament to how good the gameplay of the original game is, it is not a reflection of the state the game launched in.
Yes, the visuals are fine, but is that not what we paid for, $40 for the expected Remaster?
If you continue to think it’s okay that games launch in such poor states, we will continue to get game companies who think it is okay to provide us the bare minimum and make us pay for testing their unfinished product.
EDIT: swapped devs wording for game companies and added console issues because that affects a lot of players
its fun and im enjoying myself. but there are a lot of technical issues and a few minor exploits that need to be sealed up imo. how most of these things got out of alpha/betas i dunno. maybe some of the people kept hush hush to use and abuse things for profit on launch. who knows. but they really need to get on the ball with a patch. and some form of communication. the lack of feedback from blizzard or VV on anything being posted here is very disheartening.
While i agree with you, you can’t blame the devs, you should blame the publisher instead. They are the ones not giving the teams the support they need and rushing things out the window. And it’s especially bad when it comes to Activision…
Sometimes I wish the devs would just say screw it and start communicating with us again. I know they stopped doing that a long time ago after some incidents took place on the forums and it’s been their policy ever since to not interact, but I just want a dev to ball up and say screw it. I mean they’re not really working for a resume-worthy developer anymore so who cares, just go rogue.
I agree. I have been playing and I love D2R so far. VV have done a great job, but that’s not to say there aren’t many issues, some of them rather major.
If you look at the bug report section, heck even in the general discussion, then you know their tasks ahead. But like someone else said, a bit of communication with their customers on the most complained issues will be much appreciated so we don’t feel left in the dark.
I wouldn’t even blame the publisher on this one. This rests entirely on ABK for forcing a release date to boost their Q3 report, which is going to be…interesting given the numerous lawsuits they’re involved in. Everyone that even so much as blinked in the direction of either the closed or open betas (or both as I did) knew quite well it wasn’t ready for launch. They barely had time enough to add in the AVX optimizations only to not have enough time to test them against a variety of systems and here we are.
I would say that on the communication side, Blizzard’s trying to walk on eggshells right now. The current environment toward them is quite unreceptive across the board and I wouldn’t be surprised if legal were hamstringing their ability to be more frequent with their information for the players right now.
No, D2R didn’t launch in a good state. It launched in a playable state (at least for those that could launch it - no disrespect intended toward those that are still unable to even play). Vicarious Visions did a tremendous job with what time they had, it just wasn’t enough to give the game the expected Blizzard spit and polish. Believe me, Blizzard didn’t want a repeat of Warcraft 3: Refunded. Two very large black eyes in two years isn’t in anybody’s interests.
That said, try not to take it out on our CMs here. Their hands are digitally tied. They can’t release any information until they get approval from multiple departments (legal being the biggest bottleneck). And believe me, if any of us knew a way to bypass the AVX issues, we’d have given that info out to the players at large. Cut the CMs and TS/CS some slack - they aren’t in control. They’re just the front facing meat shields for the angry players.
Face it. The real Blizzard North was gone a long time ago. Now that Activision own’s Blizzard we can expect more of this crap. All Activision wants is your money without giving you a good product in return. Thankfully I got my refund before Activision said it’s no longer my money.
These are the ones that could have made the online experience as enjoyable as it was in 2002 FeelsRainMan
Diablo 2 LoD was more on the side of an MMO than a simple online ARPG (like Diablo 3). It was the first game in history to have a “world event”. This made the experience a LOT more enjoyable for new players and casuals. So I don’t really expect new players to stick around for long because of the lack of online features.
The gameplay and graphics are perfect, but it would have been nice if they simply matched the old battle net and had more official channels on launch. I also don’t think ladder is happening for 3 - 6 months. They have their hands full with complaints coming from console players that their online matchmaking system is a ghost town. The PC version is at least functional, but it’s still not the best it could/should have been.
1: EVERY blizzard game limits ur character limit and the QoL they have done is a great boost over original. Just casue doesnt have whatever QoL YOU want doesnt mean its not up to par
2: yes the lobby is a downgrade they need revert.
3: again they just need revert to older lobby.
4: no worse than original tbh (its always been awful)
also you should of listed controller loot as issue as it makes ppl want to solo to avoid being at a disadvantage.
hate to break to you but…its been this way for ages now.
incomplete games are the norm.
A lot of the whining is from D3 ppl (and D3 spoiled ppl and wasnt like diablo 1 or diablo 2 on reality checks).
Game has a thriving community in original w/o ANY changes yet soemhow its an issue and unplayable w/o changes on D2R?
The ONLY actual issues are the lobby, the server issues, the avx for some ppl, and the gameroom ui (as in where u look for games to join as it reloads so fast u cant scan and read script b4 it refreshes)
The actual fans of the series (not just d3) are what will keep it thriving for yrs to come…not the ppl who find it too dated/hard and will quit within a yr.
a remaster that was delivered?
modern resolutions, less pixelation, improved models, etc.
if you think its worth 40$ or not is individual choice.
I paid for multiple copies of original + xpac in the yrs gone by.
me and many ppl like me paid $40 to relive our childhood memories with the game that we loved (and still do) regardless of what the 1st timers think.
I’m not going to go with “true fans” just because it is probably putting a bad barrier but; yes, I do agree with the overall sentiment here.
The gameplay, graphics, sound, etc… basically the ACTUAL game was remastered very well. We can debate some boosts here and there but overall the game was delivered well in terms of an update.
The server issues, AVX, and some polish elements leave a lot to be desired. While I am personally not getting hit by these issues it is fairly obvious that the final touches were not great.
It is, sadly, about what I expected from this launch was a good core game with some bugs and issues that would cause major issues if you happened to land on red.
While my problems with the remaster differs from yours …
I do agree that companies need to stop releasing beta version of their game , letting us fix obvious bug issues …
We pay for a game , please pay beta testers to fix the game before launch , im tired of this bs trend that affects most new games in 2021…we arent beta testers , we are clients/customers …
Except that the original D2 did not limit characters, so that limits our stash space for inventory in D2R.
Just because something is expected does not make it good. If you expect a drug addict to go buy more drugs, does that make it good? If the servers launched in a poor state, we’re just going to keep assuming it’s expected and accept things as they are? If you continue to have “expected, so it’s okay” mentality, we’ll continue to have game companies screw us over for launches and know that players think that it’s okay because it’s expected.

Please point me to one multiplayer game that had a perfect launch.
You expecting the game to launch without any issues is unrealistic expectations. There is only so much testing Q&A can do and we live in an age were most of that testing is automated. The real test for any software is ALWAYS when it is released to the public.
It’s funny that you mention beta testing, because if Blizz hired one seasoned D2 veteran to play the game and have them sign an NDA, most of the core gameplay bugs were easily apparent with just one full playthrough of the game. Most of these were found day 1 of playing the game.
Cold immune breaks
Tick damage being higher (firewall, poison, pit lords, etc.)
Conviction aura in Chaos Sanctuary
NPCs and monsters spawn way further than their original intended locations (causing things like Meph moat trick to not work the same)
Loading screen delay (causes easy deaths)
Death lord attack animation/damage totally screwed up
No game launch can be perfect, but the biggest issues can be mitigated heavily. These are core gameplay bugs that affect the game quite heavily and are easily noticeable. These aren’t random quirks you’d find after playing 1000 hours. Blizzard chose to do the bare minimum when it came to testing, and I would say even less than that.
This could technically be considered working as designed since the paladin aura, conviction, and the necro curse, lower resists, do the same thing cold mastery does and they pierce through immunities and cold mastery is even following the " 1/5 function of usual effectiveness." Perhaps, this was a bug that should of been fixed in OG D2, but never was. I can see an argument on both sides here.
Tick damage being higher (firewall, poison, pit lords, etc.)
I have not noticed it being more. Link a source?
Conviction aura in Chaos Sanctuary
Not sure what you mean. Explain.
NPCs and monsters spawn way further than their original intended locations (causing things like Meph moat trick to not work the same)
Meph moat trick is cheese and it should go away.
Loading screen delay (causes easy deaths)
I have yet to die because of the loading delay, but I am also not making a hardcore character until the other issues are worked out.
