Hows the state of the game?
If you’ve played LoD in the past I’d call d2r a real improvement.
Many bugs have been fixed (but not all glaring ones) and some skills have been buffed.
There have been new intems/mechanics introduced in some recent patcheswhich are kinda controversial. The good thing is that you can ignore most of it if you don’t like it.
If you don’t like the new so called Terror Zones (TZ) you can disable them. If you don’t like the new Sunder charms, you don’t have to use them. If you dislike new broken runewords like mosaic, you don’t haveto use them. You might stumble over them when playing with others though. So can’t fully ignore those things unless playing solo or with a group of trusted people.
They got rid of tcp/ip which is a real shame. Possibly the biggest downside.
Game’s flooded with bots and items which might or might not have any effect on you, depending on how you play the game.

Ok for a few days but they not only abandoned it but made sure that mods cannot thrive as it did for the original game, all that to avoid competition for D4
Tho you can always play a better version through single played modded
I would recommend it only to the most dedicated of players. It’s great up to the point you beat the game in hell, but the list of reasons to continue playing decrease dramatically after that.
Itemization and uninteresting loot is my biggest issue, after the end game. I feel D2R is just missing a bit of content to push it over the top.
This game is objectively one of the best for itemization and interesting loot in any RPG. That’s why it has had such a strong fan base for 24 years…
My opinion is this game is an absolute amazing remaster. I literally couldn’t believe my eyes when I first went through. It’s like they captured exactly what my brain was imagining and filling in the gaps with decades ago. It’s amazing and beautiful. It has introduced some pretty welcome changes as well, shared stash, extra tabs, etc.
If you are into RPGs, or a d2 fan, you absolutely have to give it a shot. I’ve been playing as my primary game for the most part since it launched. Take the negativity on the forums with a grain of salt.
I can’t speak to the switch though… I play on PC and love it.

Not if someone is casual, or doesn’t want to spend a huge amount of time playing. That’s just being truthful. The RNG is fine for the first couple of runs though the game, but after that the changes of finding an item or rare item you could actually use is, well, rare. It seems the norm is defaulting to the use of rune words.
if you like single player… its amazing. better than lod.
of your looking for a game with a community? that got destroyed when the out of game lobby did

create an account on discord of you didn’t already and look for like-minded folks there.
phh, i keep hearing that as if that’s going to work. ive been using discord since in 2016 or 2017. ive tried searching the discords. i tried joining some a few times in the past… their all garbage.
the dclone discord. is run by hypocrites
i started using jsp in 2007 when i starting taking part in anni walks on the dclone irc…
back then ladder and non ladder shared the same IP, so walking on non-ladder would walk all ladder ladder games on that ip as well as non-ladder games on that IP.
we would then sell the annis we didnt use for FG and use that FG to buy more NL Sojs.
yet on the dclone “discord” they are perfectly willing to link to streamers who buy sojs with real money from sell sites ON STREAM… but if i actually tell them how we ran dclone in the past… and defend jsp as a free trade site… than ban you… their whole thing is using soj’s sold bought with REAL money instead of traded for… but god forbid u mention “jsp” as a way to trading "without* using the sell sites.
i wasn’t going to take that BS. people are so blind in their ways they refuse to see the utter hypocrisy of what their doing.
discord for forming a community is just bull… discord is when u HAVE a community already
the issue with d2:R is 99% the lack of lobby chat, and not being able to block spam bots… every other issue… even mosaic, infinity, and botters are second to that.
i make freinds in D2 by helping strangers… every so often those strangers decides they like someone helpful and rather just leaving wants to be freinds.
im not looking for a “community” run by people trying to shove their own beliefs down other people throats.
my friends are friends not some random group of people lead by an all powerful leader who dictates what you can talk about.
it did for me.

and also loving resets when the crew gets together usually once a year… love diablo 2 ! long live diablo 2 !

In spite of all of the suggestions for changes, tweaks and updates you might see on the board, from myself and others, I think this is one of the best states d2 has been in.
Build diversity went through the roof when sunder charms were released, you can now farm chaos sanctuary as a fire druid, and crystalline passage as a blizzard sorceress.
That’s something for d2 fans to celebrate,
There are still some things to fix, however, as I read above, I am reminded.

D2R is Currently the Definitive Edition of Diablo 2.
It’s absolutely amazing to play through especially with friends. Online is great at the start of every new season and dies down around the end of the season.
No new updates have been coming in since Diablo 4 launched but that’s expected with them focusing on a new title.

Im pretty happy with the game and really happy that i can finally play fire builds on hell difficulty and i absolutely love playing my hybrid fury/summon druid too. There are so many viable options and build diversity is so much better than LoD. Still hoping for a few Qol changes like rune/gem stacking, fixing lobby and pls move act 5 Cain back to his old spot, but overall the game is better than ever before. If i could pick one thing to change it would be remove mosaic, its a bit too broken and doesnt really belong i D2R but thats just my opinion, besides its a complete eye cancer and i leave every public game if there is a mosaic assa
