I love 1-3 and the expansions. (yes, including Hellfire)
The only one I am not going to play is immortal.
I, in fact, do not have a mobile phone and I don’t want one.
I’m a Diablo franchise fan even if all of the game developments don’t define additinoal decades of my life like D2 did. I really enjoy the lore and cinematic content. The death of cain by some evil butterfly chick was weak in my opinion and felt like a forced nose-thumb at past grandfathers of the franchise creation (Brevid loved Cain, Jay Wilson called him a loser on Twitter). It DEFINITELY felt the as when Ninja Theory threw a blonde wig on Dante in DMC:Devil May Cry very early in the first stage of the game and he scoffed “NO WAY!” and threw it off. I wasn’t a fan of the rebooted Dante like the original Dante, and killing Cain didn’t improve the Diablo lore in my opinion, but people have said the same about various Star Wars/Star Trek/name your franchise storylines, so I just shrug it off and wait to see what visually awesome lore/cinema is in store for the next installment (D4). Hopefully it goes without saying I can’t possibly express the gravity of my trepidation about what we’ll see gameplay experience-wise.
I have played all Diablos.
The death of cain by some evil butterfly chick was weak
You know, another weak thing on D3 lore was Belial… his lies so childish…
Played D1 D2 and D3 extensively
Laddered and PvP’d on D2 a lot back in the day.
Lots of good memories from those days hard to choose… Finding my first Ber rune from a chest in act3 has got to be up there.
Played D3 seasons for a few years too finished in the top 50 for demon hunter once I think that toon is still on the account using the same gear
Don’t think I will try diablo immortal though I’m on the fence about diablo4 it just doesn’t look right to me I don’t know why. D2R may end up being the last game I ever buy from blizzard.
I have played D1 LAN with friends. Love the game!
Have also played Diablo II since somewhere in 2002.
Played It all the time, I don’t know how many hours I’ve played that game.
But It’s A LOT, played it everyday so I guess more than 10.000 hours or even more. . .
One of my greatest number 1 favorite games in history. Nothing can overcome this game!
Also played Diablo 3 couple of years.
But I can be honest, It’s one of the worse Diablo game ever.
Looking forward to Diablo IV, but my favorite will be Diablo 2:Resurrected I think.
So my wish to Blizzard and Vicarious Visions, don’t do drastical changes in the core of D2:R. And, let the loot system be untouched.
Let the game be alive 21 more years.
Most of the entire story of d3 was kinda trash.
Not to sound sexist but the whole female Diablo thing was ick also.
Like they tried to conform to the times but they didn’t need too…
Now we have a legit Female top boss in Lilith coming in d4
(Cains death was terrible)
The concept of female D was clever on a theoretical level in my mind, but was poorly executed and that poor execution combined with all the raging gender politics fires at the time was a bad combination. Perhaps if that female Diablo concept were either saved for D4, or far better story writing and voice acting for the D3 iteration, it would have been a better result.
To be honest it actually makes sense that he would receive a similar appearance to what he possessed.
Just didn’t have to make sense and I’d have been fine with a real terror looking Diablo.
It was just awkward if I could pinpoint it
We could go on and on about the D3 faults.
So let’s!
The story is really bad. Some parts are ok, and some of the voice acting is great (Kulle & Shen, for example), but Cain should not have gone out like that, if at all. And considering who Leah is, he should have been alive for that. Another reason to dislike Jay Wilson.
I thought Kulle’s character and the scoundrel were the best parts of the story. Adria wasn’t bad either, but Belial & Azmo were ridiculous. The constant “you’ll never defeat this monster” followed by “ oh that was nothing, wait til you see what is next” was just…pathetic. Part of a larger trend by Blizzard of having way too chatty bosses. Malthael was blessedly quiet, and actually tougher than Diablo.
If the story in D4 follows the theme of the trailer, and they keep the boasting and monologuing to a minimum, it’ll be a lot more enjoyable.
Her feminine figure was underwhelming in its subtle style. The femininity should have been as fantastical as fantasy stories are to begin with especially with how everything else about Diablo universe is so … NOT subtle.
Still when I type
“Not even death can save you from me!”
Do you even remotely picture the Diablo in d3 or can you even? cause I can’t…
I picture a massive terror that they tried to portray in d2 and I know both were diff gender possessions but it still doesn’t resonate at all with me regarding d3
cracks open a drink
Those two were so bad, but especially Azmodan, that it actually made Diablo a worse villain during the whole transformation.
“This was my plan from the start!” Yes, yes we heard from the lesser evil… I don’t care anymore…
Not only was he quite but when others spoke for him it was with a sense of inevitability which made Malthael feel more imposing. You saw what he was doing constantly and those speaking for him acted more of it being inevitable than about “impossible” like Azmodan would which made it feel more imposing.
Other core D3 issues:
Core: Damage scaling off of the weapon I felt was a MAJOR mistake. I’ve had times when a wand lasted me from, say, Act 2 normal to Hell.
Core: I think the entire skill system was absolute garbage. The regen/spend mechanic I felt was clunky (and I almost always do builds without it). The fact you had no real progression on skills but just unlocks I felt was poor, the original drop idea might have been good… who knows.
Later - RoS: For everything I liked about RoS the Set system and infinite scaling of GRifts that was set in motion evolved into being the death of the game to me. The 100s of Legendary drops every play sessions, the fact that I’m scaling an infinite cycle, and the fact that eventually it just becomes a “1-shot burst” test for your defense has all made it ridiculous to the point that I don’t really even want to play D3
Nope… not at all. The only villain which has left an impression with me is Mathael. I thought Butcher looked good from a design standpoint but the enemy itself didn’t leave much of an impression. In fact, The HotS Butcher (which is D3’s Bucher) resonates more
lol
+1 !
+1!

I seem to recall hating farming Izual as well because of the lengthy voice dialogue queues. I’m all for fluidity and supporting campaign elements, but I agree it was WAAAAY overdone in D3. I think it could have been done in a way to add some dynamics like not repeating so often, having optional voice dialogues for the system to choose from (great opportunity for some easter eggs btw), and not have some of the triggers take over the screen EVERY time if you’ve already completed that quest on that difficulty. Kind of like how you can skip cinematics.
The shrieky voice distortions were overdone. A little too “witch from Left 4 Dead” -ish. They could have conveyed a demonic female tone much better. And the wording and pacing was too wrong to bring that same feeling D2’s Diablo voice brought.
edit
tongue in cheek
and Jay Wilson being a loser (verified it himself on his own Twitter feed) was a really poor feature and balance choice. (heheh )
Yeah, and that’s why I look at D3 as a completely different game. I’m not a competitive Diablo player, but the only real point of D3 is to push for the best GR clear you can do. It’s fine, and I do pretty well for solo (GR101 is my best so far, multiple seasonal guardians) , but it’s really math at some point; is your gear high enough to beat this level. RNG plays a role, with pylon placement and so forth, but it’s just a different beast.
In D2, Hell demands strategy. Pick at the flanks, use doorways, retreat tactically (run away for you laypersons), and know that some fights are really hard, but eventually doable.
And D3 can be fun; it’s great to look at, the crafting system is solid but bloated, and I really like the skills; they work well in a key area; they make you want to push the button. If you’ve never used a Wizard with disintegrate, you haven’t lived. Seismic slam, Blessed Shield, Vengeance just to name a few are visually appealing and feel great when you use them. Now if it had D2’s depth and character building…we wouldn’t be caring about a D2R right now.
D3 could get a whole new life if they scrap the personal loot architecture. Go back to shared drops, adjust the drop rates accordingly, AND ABOLISH BIND-ON-ACCOUNT-DROPS FOR THE LOVE OF BISCUITS!! >.<
Or just get rid of the smart loot and decrease the piñata a lot
Make things outside of sets and a couple uniques have purpose and value.
Some blues in d2 are the most sought after items
Many eth and socketed items with different superior rolls mean a lot
Ext ext
Diablo 2 is like always finding something you didn’t think you wanted or needed
Hell even the next blue jewel could be a 40/15
Yes. loot pinata = garbage. Screens full of DH explosions and Barb dust everywhere are bad enough.
And yes, there are some REALLY desirable non-magic items in D2 that can bring a pretty penny, and many blue items as well, and we’re not talking PVP either. JMOD anyone?
I was a Diablo fan first and foremost. I still have more fond memories of that game than any of the others. Even if d2 is a better game. But d3 was so forgettable. I don’t care about it in any way. D4, who knows. But I will always remember the first two games.
