During nightmare act 5 quest 1, I got both that and a 4os war thresher for insight runeword too.
Run normal Cow Level. Kill cows. Drop a crystal sword. Take it to Larzuk in A5. Click “Add sockets”. ???. Profit.
I found mine finally in Act 1 Hell. One of the monsters in catacombs dropped it.
1 normal cows run, white broadsword found → Larzuk → done.
I can’t find a single monarch in hell. AAAAAAA.
I was hoping to not have to use Larzuk, but I bit the bullet. I really hope to not have to use my last one on the monarch.
Just one cow run and larzuk quest…ezpz
Honestly, the amount of time you save by just using Larzuk on the items instead of waiting for the sockets, will still give you more time to MF and run more characters through the game to get more sockets.
You will get proficient at it, like making a Sorceress for teleport and getting to Larzuk in an hour or so, compared to 5 hours in a cow gaming waiting for a socket to drop.

Haven’t farmed for any socket items. A 4 socket Broadsword dropped while progressing through NM act 1 or act 2? Can’t recall. And since this is my first time around playing with the new runewords, I didn’t think much of it (used to 1.09 and not much for early 4 socket wpn for sorc there unless staff) I almost just sold it, but thought twice and better check the new runewords. So there, one Spirit richer as I already had the runes.
Prob been said, but Norm cows doesn’t drop 4 socket. You can get a crystal sword there and take to Larzuk to get 4 socket. Need to be in NM for 4 socket to drop.

chrystal sword dropped for me on the 2nd run.

Got one monarch while i progressed through hell - and the 2nd one took me 6-8 hell cow runs.
Nightmare cows is generally better for sockets. Since it’s still encoded from classic Diablo 2 that most sockets are flagged as equivalent to exceptional or elite items. Along with being level dependent. Crystal Swords I believe are in the nightmare pool in general along with most weapons found in act 2 and later.
I know the wanting for a crystal sword. It’s so when it’s elite it’s automatically indestructible. So other sword types won’t work with what they want.
Took me six runs on normal cow to get it. One dropped second run but had three sockets
using Fury Druid as my opening character.
Currently doing rune run in NM act 1 at level 45.
Find 3 four socket Polearms (1 Scythe, 1 Poleaxe and 1 Halberd) during a single run.
Find a white Broad Sword in another run.
Haven’t find two Sol runes yet.
Going to use larzuk quest if I find two Sol runes before a 4 os sword.
Larzuk quest gives 6 sockets bruh.

crystal swords get 6 sockets from larzuk. Why am i seeing so many people who clearly have never done this before? OP wants 4 sockets to make a spirit, not 6 sockets.
Just pick up every crystal sword and use the cube to roll the sockets and try your luck.
It will give 4. Cows on Normal have mon-level 28.
