After rereading the op. I have to agree with pretty much everything.
All of these things are based off cause-and-effect, creating a non-productive and depressing environment which has an influence on how the players choose to play.
After not being able to find cow or baal games and not being able to fill my own (months ago), I gave up. I decided I’m just going to join other peoples games (any kind that has players in it) and solo MF on P8, since there’s nothing else to do. This did create more toxicity. I remember a few guys having trouble on ancients and asking me to help them or leave. I just ignored them because I felt I was doing what I had to (unless I wanted to go play online singleplayer), they ended up raging pretty hard at me.
Here’s a map of the servers I was able to connect to in US-West. The yellow border represents Battle Net 1.0 US West realm, and the blue borders represent several servers on Battle Net 2.0.
I’ve seen some people from California mention that they don’t see a lot of players, and that’s because California has it’s own server. So California players mostly play with other California players. Nevada connects to a different server and Arizona seems to connect to it as well. Washington also has another and there could be more.
Blizzard can choose to just leave it as is if they think this game has no future. But I’d like to think the potential is there with future patches, expansions, and all the online communities building hype like Llama and Debrunski.
So from another perspective, you chose not to take 60 seconds out of your MF’ing in others’ progression game, potentially making new friends and adding them to the pool of people making public baal run and MF games.
But you’re definitely not to blame. Something else is.
Honestly as a short-term fix they just need to stop filtering the list to local zones. I’m a grown-up – I can check my ping in a game and if it sucks, I can leave. I’d rather have the option to be able to see and join more games then they are currently giving me even if the ping isn’t “optimal”. I’ve played with 200-400ms pings. It’s not amazing but it’s doable.
Agreed, just this change alone would significantly defragment the servers and help people find more games. That’s not to disagree with the OP though, there are a lot of changes that need to be done as well.
Absolutely but looking for small term simple changes that could have a large impact might be worth pushing on. Asking for the kitchen sink from dev never works out well.
I could have helped them, and probably should have helped them, but I was I was in a frustrated state of mind knowing how garbage the online mode was compared to 20 years ago, even with the same amount of players online. I think the OP is right because I’m not a toxic person, but I still said f*** it, and continued doing what I was there to do.
For a player like me, adding them and trying to convert them into baal run players is only addressing the symptoms and not the cause of the problem. It’s fighting an up hill battle that I should never have had to fight in the first place.
We all have different preferences on how to play. Some people prefer single-player, some prefer playing with their friends in private games, some play with JSP players, and some prefer playing with the in-game community (which is me, and I guess makes me a casual player).
If I sign online at 2AM at night on Ladder, I should be able to find a Baal or Cow run instantly. I shouldn’t have to check my friend list or go on a discord. That’s just garbage game design when the casual playerbase is there for it. Blizzard simply destroyed the in-game community with the lack of channels and separated servers. I mean you have to agree it’s completely absurd to separate California players from Nevada players when they’re beside each other.
If League players had to choose between higher ping and low queue times or lower ping and longer queue times, most people will choose the higher ping. And that doesn’t mean the ping is unplayable. Actually most League players dislike high queue times and even sometimes play ranked mode on different realms.
And come to think of it Valorant let’s you select which servers you want to connect to. You can put your preference on the closest server and add in farther servers.
Riot Games should be proof that we don’t need to defend this archaic online mode. I think this is a reasonable thing to ask for.
Lol okay no but seriously tho everyone is toxic from time to time, aside from maybe someone like Keanu Reeves or Weird Al Yankovic, I’m not sure those two have ever been toxic even once in their lives. But for the other 7.99 billion of us, it’s inevitable we engage in toxic behavior from time to time. Even the best, most reasonable, rational, kind and goodhearted among us. I won’t be nice and friendly to trolls and toxic folks in this forum. I stopped trying to have civil discussion with people that ignore arguments and questions and only try to win with insults. But as this seems the only language here that is understood, I don’t mind using it.

I’m not some pvp master at all I’m just playing the game minding my own business the only time I even try to kill another player is if they;
Attack the nubs in a Baal run
Try to intimidate me off a spawn with a random hostile (normally accompanied by some rude chat about how its their game etc)
Try and pk me
I am the good guy here 100%
Hostile me and ill take your ears too if I can catch you.
…and btw all pvp in this game is a competition of “who can be the most lame” always has been why do you think rules about bm where created (by players) way back in the day? If they where no rules duelling wouldn’t be possible since there was so much cheese and people do still join duel games I bet and clear it out with something totally lame

Out in the world random pks and people trying to scare you off a spawn get no pass. I’ll kill them in any lame way I possible can. No marquess of queensberry rules here. I really enjoy killing the people who talk in the chat or kill the low level players in a baalrun. Those ears are precious to me. Worth more than any runes lol.
Sadly though not many people have the balls to hostile another player. Even the random pk’s seem a bit thin on the ground these days its sad

On the lack of public duel games:
Most of the pvp happens in private games. Nobody who seriously wants to pvp goes to public bm bs. Especially not with 100% stunlock being a thing. Also with the current Lobby you wouldn’t see it any way
