I have been experimenting and even after today’s update I still randomly crash to desktop.
I am using an ultra-wide monitor. I have moved to window mode, reduced resolution, turned off hdr, reduced my refresh rate, etc… I am using Display Port to connect my screen.
My friend who has a similar system is using hdmi. He is not getting the random crashes. He does have an AMD 6800XT. I have an RTX3080.
If you are crashing randomly with no error does your system use display port?
I have experimented a bit tonight. I was able to play an offline game for a while with no crashes (completed the den of evil quest and cleared the first area). I then moved to an online game and crashed shortly after starting the game. I couldn’t even get to the den of evil.
This is the error i saw just before i crashed.

I have also been crashing very, very frequently–judging by what you posted though, I’ll try running the game in classic mode and see if I crash at all (since the render of an hd mesh is the suggested culprit in that one). Most of my crashes happen in the lobby (returning to, or sitting in), but I’ll be sure to update this post if pure classic graphics works for me.
Edit: Well, I didn’t crash at all on legacy graphics, so I went ahead and also changed everything to low on the resurrected graphics (except AA, changed that to FXAA from default). I also joined my own private chat channel each time I returned to lobby. End result? Went from crashing once every few games/minutes to not crashing at all for the rest of the last hour before bed.
I have similar system specs to yours and I’m experiencing the same thing.
Ultrawide monitor (x34 Predator), 5950x, RTX 3080 (same driver), 32GB RAM, D drive install on an m2, Windows 10 Pro. 21H1 however…
All my temps seem fine to me during every crash. CPU cores peak at 75-77c and GPU peaks at 70c.
I’ve attempted to undervolt my 3080 with MSI Afterburner just to try different troubleshooting but without any luck; the game still crashes eventually and randomly.
I did however change 1 setting in the video options since another poster mentioned AA… I flipped AA to off and so far I haven’t experienced a crash (yet) and it’s been a few hours. Gonna experiment some more this weekend.
Same here. I have a 2019 PC that way exceed the minimum requirements and blizzard tells me to contact Nvidia for support.
When they have no good answer for you its easy to point fingers. But obviously its blizzard’s fault cause the game is BROKEN.
For anyone interested, I found a command line in an old WoW thread that might be useful for most people that have this issue. From what I’ve been noticing is that the crashing has something to do with directx12. If you use -d3d11 for your launch command lines it will force the game to start with directx11 instead of directx12. I’ve been crashing a lot and after using the command line I was able to play for a few hours without crashing at all.
I’m still having this problem. WTH are you doing anything about this Blizz? Please help, I can’t play online at all. It’s very frustrating. I’m seeing lots of this issue being posted but no solutions.
I didn’t play D2R for 5 days. I come back and I crash every 2-3 mins. None of my settings changed. All my settings are set to low on my PC:
i7-10700K
GTX 1080ti FTW3
64GB RAM
I can’t play on high setting graphics as it has crashed since I bought the game in February 2023.
Very frustrating.
POS game will not work. Crashes every which way. Tried every fix. Game is broken. Waste of cash.
Well glad it’s not just me, thought my GPU was busted. Sometimes I can play for an hour without problems, then it’s every 5-10 min. Very frustrating.
