Fix merc POSITIONING AND PATHING

as a ranged character THE MERC SHOULD BE IN FRONT OF ME NOT WALKING 10 MILES BEHIND ME GETTING STUCK ON LITTERALLY EVERY DOORWAY! YOU REMASTERED DIABLO2LORD OF DESTRUCTION AND YET YOU NEVER FIXED ANY OF THE BASIC PROBLEMS THAT HAVE BEEN A PLAGUE ON THESE GAMES.

Yes, the merc pathing AI is simple/dumb, they always try to go straight towards you. Mazy areas sometimes require you to occasionally wait or go out of your intended way to get them to pass through a door or to get them around some obstacle. I like to think of controlling the merc as like playing one of those handheld ball bearing mazes.

If that is too much trouble, and for an added challenge, you can always play without a merc.

You can also use teleport. (Shop Ormus in Act 3 normal for a staff with Teleport charges.)

If you’re hoping for them to update the merc AI in this game, you’re going to be waiting a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo…

A few eons later…

…oooooooooooooooooooooooong time.

I agree here.
I am also having problems with Druid Summon.
On my left side of the character, half of my companions are doing nothing, on my right side of my character, my companions are in battle.

I dont believe, it will take a loooooooooooooooooong time to fix it, I do believe, that they will NEVER fix it.

Merc pathing is dumb for ranged chars especially without teleport to reset his position. I often use TPs and entrances/exits to help reset my merc stuck somewhere or whatever the case may be. Despite this, I think adding movement commands would make the game especially on hardcore even easier which isn’t the right idea to improve the game. You would always be able to use your merc to do the initial check or kiting around a corner, drastically improving your char’s survival..

technically they did “fix” the pathing. It used to be even worse. But they deliberately didn’t completely reinvent it, for consistency reasons.

Beauty of ZooDruid, is you recast your Zoo members wherever you please.

Ya, I’ve always considered walking the Merc as part of the game.

I cannot understand why it bothers people, it’s always been that way, everyone knows it, so… do you incorporate it into your game strategy… or be upset?

Because it is something that is slowing them down towards getting their hi roons, shakos and other gear they desire. They target it as a valid reason for their misfortune, even though it affects everyone else the same way. And since misery loves company, here we are.

It is not a beauty to recast, it is annoying that I HAVE to recast, to get the animals in combat.
So I disagree with your answer.

Well sounds like what u really want is a bot, then u wont have to cast ANYTHING urself. To be honest its really not that hard to slam the bear on top of a target, besides there is always telestomp (tp charges or enigma) which will immediately reposition every single summon + merc to ur location (right on top of target)

How the hell could you calculate that I want a bot & not the game fixed?
For me you sound like you DONT want the game fixed, but want people to use bots.

The merc AI has been the same since the game came out. “Fixing” it with updated AI would be another step to not only deviate more from this game being a remaster, but it would be just another thing to make the game easier. The game is already easy enough, especially for veteran players.

If you’re here for nostalgia, this game has it, otherwise this is the wrong game to be looking for/expecting “new”.

I dont care if the game is easy for veteran players. I still find it challenging.

I dont believe that a small fix for —>
“On my left side of the character, half of my companions are doing nothing, on my right side of my character, my companions are in battle.”
would have an extreme impact on the game as enigma has on this game.
So I disagree with you.

It is my belief that you don’t have a clue what a broken game really is. So please, I invite you to go and find a game that you do enjoy.

I dont care what you believe. I still disagree with you.
I would NEVER invite you to go and find a game that you can enjoy. That would make me disloyal towards Blizzard.

OK… Just remember that people normally play games for entertainment.

Ciao.

I dont care why people play games.
Bye bye.

Because u obviously expect minions to do everything by themself without any sort of active gameplay (recast/reposition). Besides what u call “fixing” could be considered “breaking” the game by others, and since none of the people with the passion, knowledge and experience works for Blizz anymore, noone is qualified to make these changes and stay true to the core mechanics and legacy of this old gem. As TheDarkJedi already mentioned, the AI has been the same for more than 2 decades and i certainly dont want the current devs at Blizz messing with this old game

Blizzard is a billion dollar company, they will solve it one way or another.
The real questions, which I find relevant are…

  1. When will Blizzard fix the game.
    &
  2. IF they want to fix the game.

I dont care about TheDarkJedi & his comments, they are irrelevant to me.

… The AI might be simple and dumb, but it’s been that way for over two decades, it is part of the game! If you don’t feel like or are physically or mentally incapable of moving your character to control the dumb minion AI, then play a class that doesn’t have minions, or as I mentioned before, find a different game to play, hopefully one that you do enjoy.

Keep in mind the CPU’s we had back 25 years ago… The minimum requirements for the game was a Pentium 233. The AI had to be simple to avoid overwhelming the hardware for the era. As I also mentioned earlier, if you want nostalgia, this game has it.
