Do we really want a pure remake?

I LOVE DIABLO 2.

However there are a few things that make the game feel unnecessarily archaic in my eyes, and I hope to see them changed:

  • Loot filter addition
  • Charm inventory
  • Stackable runes and gems
  • Infinite stash
  • Force-move bind on left mouse button

I loved that mods like POD and PD2 added some of these features, but I would’ve preferred if they didn’t touch the fine balance of the game. This is why I feel D2:R has the perfect opportunity to get the modern QOL features right, without throwing everything off-balance.

Anybody else agree with me?

I clearly disagree with you.

Charm inventory will break the balance. With it, you don’t have to choose - have more space in your inventory, or have more charms. I like that choice.

Same with stackable stuff - you must choose what to keep and what must be sacrificed.

Same with the infinite stash.

It is a good thing that diablo lost after d2 - not being able to get it all. I want it as it is.

Charm inventory is a no go in my opinion, it will just be too hard to balance.
Option that allows you to remove some of the items that drop on the ground appearing will be awesome, I always had a bad time in cow levels for example where you get a big stack of cows kill them and suddenly there are 2435234234234 items/potions/miscs on the ground and sometimes you either miss what you are looking for or spend too much time just moving around and double/triple checking, same for other maps with a lot of mobs as well. If they can implement such an option I think it will be awesome.

None of these are a choice to me, unfortunately.

I will always use the highest amount of charms, with enough room to pick up 1 item for ID and drop back to the ground… Not fun, but that’s how I play.

I will keep all the non-stackable items, and as long as the stash is not infinite, I will be making endless mules. We may get extra shareable stash tabs, but as it looks now it won’t really solve the requirement to mule for many players. Extremely unfortunate.

I see your point. I’m not a hardcore player, and I like all these restrictions, but maybe infinite stash and charm inventory will be ok as endgame upgrades. Maybe when you hit 90+ lvl. Just to keep it intact for players like me, but also make improvements for the endgame phase.

loot filter, yes
it just makes the game visually cleaner

charm inventory, yes
this has no effect on “balance” at all its just allow you to actually pick up stuff while you are using said charms

stackable runes and gems, … i dont see an issue with this personally, a shared stash with runes and gems would be nice, but i think there needs to be a limit

infinite stash.
well… no… MUCH bigger stash. like 10-30x bigger so i dont need to make an seperate account just for mules? sure… infinite? no
giving lower level gear to newer players and getting lower level gear like this was its own reward there needs to be “some” limit

force move on left mouse
i don’t see why this would be needed but… there isn’t anything inherently wrong with it

i have to disagree with charm inventory, being a no go, you say " you need to choose". but in reality does ne1 every really “choose”
i always ran 8 GC’s and a torch and a cube and a tp/id tome and just shoved stuff in cube…
you say " its a sacrifice" but its not… because no one chooses to NOT make the sacrifice. so all it really does it “limit your pickup space” and just acts as an “annoyance”.

it DOESN’T affect balance in any ways becuase people are ALREADY using a full charm inventory. maybe it adds ONE Grand charm space becuase of your taking out cube but u need to have a torch anyways so you still arn’t having 10 GC’s.
all it’s doing is making life easier. there is no “balance” sacrifice at this point

Ok, we have charm inventory. I myself will fill it with charms. And also I will fill my main inventory with charms too. Balance issue? Yep. I have x2 charms now, but still, I have no space for items.

lol charms don’t work outside of the charm inventory…

What size it must be then?

PD2 solved this by making only one section of the inventory capable of activating charms. The other part of the inventory can only hold every other type of item.

It’s not a technical impossibility, it has been done by modders already…

this was solved a LONG time ago, any charm outside of the charm inventory ( or partially) have the level requirement raised by 100, therefore making them not work.

as for what size… the charm inventory is the same size and the normal d2 inventory… 4x10

So you could fit more charms than in a normal d2 game? I see a balance issue. If there will be charm inventory it must be normal size inventory minus size of other needed items, that are must-have on any run. Tomes, space for 1 item, etc.

So you could not ever have more charms than you can have in normal, not-modded d2 game.

you clearly dont understand what we are saying
you have a 4x10 charm space in addition to your normal space… charms ONLY work in this space. you can pick them up. and keep them in your normal inventory sure… but they wont have any affect outside of the charm space, charms only work if they are IN your charm inventory which is 4x10.

Maybe I really do not understand you, Im really a purist, I never played any mods for diablo 2 and really do not want (exept plugy). I really like not being able to pick up stuff having inventory stacked by charms, its a part of hardcore game mechanic for me. It looks… right for me.

As I said before maybe thats good idea, but only as endgame upgrades.

id post a link to a picture but for w/e reason i cant do that yet

I googled it already, no worries here. As I said before I still love vanilla expirience more, it is like devs created a game, and this is how I want to expirience it. As an art thing. But as endgame upgrades for 90+lvl chars - sure, maybe it will be a good addition. What do you think about that?

i mean, it’s just carrying space… its not like there is anything “special” about the current size. sure in the mod i played when u start you can even use your charm inentory to store normal items before u had enough charms to fill it but honestly. having more space and having to go back to town less often to see isn’t really a “downside”. sure you could put it behind 90+ but what would be the point? to stop people from having more inventory space? the reason LITERALLY EVERY MOD gives more space is because… people want more space… people loive the game no no one “wants” the anoyince of having to have your inventory open pick up an item and drop it in cube when u find an item u want to pick up… its stupid… there is no point to it… we have a space to pick up new items and we have our charm inventory to get bonuses from charms from. its not a downside. its just removing a needless annoyance

Ideally they could make a separate beautiful inventory that can hold charms and nothing else, and make it so you don’t see it every time you open the inventory (it could be a separate tab, for example).

No other ARPG has charms clogging up the entire inventory because that system proved to be disruptive to the flow of the game. At the same time, every other ARPG has some form of loot filtering to reduce the on-screen clutter.

If there’s a will, there’s a way. It’s up to the community to make our wishes known now while the iron is hot and QOL improvements are on the table.

One thing I want is for the game to not automatically end after killing Diablo in classic (non LOD)
