Diablo II (USEast) - Half broken command

Greetings Diablo II community fellowers,

I recently did a few tries to rename a character @ the Battle.net prompt in the latest weeks and it seems the request with the email has been broken even after 10 minutes of waiting.

The server doesn’t always respond correctly. Sometimes, it requires many attempts. Clicking on the link and waiting. Then if it fails, just try again. Even if it says ‘expired’ just keep trying.

I just tested the rename function on US East Ladder. It worked. But, I had to click on the link several times before the server responded correctly. Sometimes, it would say, ‘expired’. But, I just kept trying and suddenly it said, “Success!”

For those new to this feature, here are the steps…

  1. Must have a registered email attached to your Diablo 2 account.
  2. Go into game with your character to rename.
  3. Type: rename-character confirm
  4. Sign out of Diablo 2 and wait 10 minutes.
  5. Check your email for Blizzard message. Click on the link provided. Keep trying if it doesn’t respond correctly. It may take several attempts.
  6. A webpage will load to rename your character, with instructions.
