I don’t know about D2R’s backend, but it’s more likely than not that incorporating even a simple mod there is either highly unsafe or requires so much time for regression tests that it simply can’t be prioritized over the current snafu. It’s the reality of software engineering that resources are always limited, and especially for legacy code that’s often not so well documented or tested, poking things a tiny bit on one end can cause nightmarish bugs in goodness knows where else that you won’t detect until it goes live. No self-respecting engineer will yolo-import code without extensive tests and reviews.
Agree OP, they need to redesign how spawning Dclone works.
They could make the change and do a PTR before it goes live in the actual game.
Blizz does this in pretty much all of their online games.
That’s exactly the part that takes ages because even making the change isn’t going to involve yolo-importing code. And that’s if they even have a PTR for D2R, which seems to be still running on legacy architecture.
Ngl it’s the first good suggestion I’ve read thus far, possibly the only one.
yeah I kind of hope it is region wide and not based on ip address of the particular server but then again, this might lower the value of anni charm significantly.
This is so true… sadly no mods will probably read this
Well, as if Blizz will change any mechanic or invest any work into the game? If they dont even fix the most basic things like login queue, crashes and game creation delay that even happens when you had an invalid game-name or game that was already full?
I doubt that anything gameplay or mechanic based will change here. They proven that they have no interest in further changes/devleopment.
bumping again for vis
Hope one day they actually care about this.
I think unid unique rings or unid torches would be good ideas. More realistic to get, and you might be selling valuable ones or a soj without really knowing
It being ip based which is capped at like 200 games, is pretty ridiculous. This is one of the few things i think REALLY needs to be addressed. On old Bnet it would be the entire region if the amount of sojs were sold. Yes, there were less IPs. But still, this is ridiculous and makes dclone impossible without joining secret discords and colluding.
Way to easy, for such a strong item.
Way to easy for such a strong item.
Region-wide spawning is absurd. Players need to actively engage in the spawn themselves. Also, breaks the economy.
If said cube recipes contains extremely rare items, then i could be up for this.
I could be up for a change to the spawn system, as long as the event and item doesn’t become trivial.
Cool idea, except the global event part.
BUMP. Do it like it’s in single player - one SoJ = one spawn. Been playing since the start, everyday - 0 SoJ rings so far.
if only there were people arround that know the legacy code that they could bring on board to work on issues
This is a major problem… fix your stuff blizz, we cant have walks like this
just accept you’re never going to get an anni
ngl i had a lot of fun back in the day on IRCs hunting for dclone, but honestly it is an antiquated system. Its also no surprise that as word gets around about a dclone walk, people switch realms from all over the world which can cause queues or server issues. I hope they implement some changes to this, for both their sake and ours. Really dont want to use 3rd party software and firewall modifications, and a change to make the standard of heroes relevant would actually be really cool.
I got Annis from all my walks. It was still a silly and arcane process that needs changes.
I spawned Dclone in private game and most friends also spawn him in private games.
