I’d like to see a cited source where they promised updates.

As far as your choice of not buying Blizzard games: Everything that has a beginning always has an end.

They did update it

“Access to Diablo II: Resurrected in Korea has been updated to allow access at 19 years of age.”

They knew what they were saying to everyone when they said “It’s a live game”. They took the money and ran.

Regardless of what the player community believes “live service” or “live game” means, they still never said anything along the lines of “We will be updating this game on a regular basis”. In fact, I do recall that they mentioned that updates would be slowing down about 2.5 years ago. At best, “live service” and “live game” are simply gimmicks, snake oil that helped the game sell better especially to those that want constant change to the game.

I’m sure if those at Blizzard who shared our passion for the game had the power to do so, they would make regular updates to the game a reality…

But there’s the “greed” factor to consider. The game is under the umbrella of a publicly traded company. Those greedy big wigs are doing everything they can to squeeze every dollar from every nook and cranny from the company that they can to earn their fat bonuses. That’s what they are paid to do, maintain as highly of a profitable company as they can in order to maximize the return for the share holders.

I know, it sucks for us plebeians who just want to have fun.

They were clearly implying seasonal motifs and seasonal rebalancing to sell games. They knew everybody would be thinking d3 type seasons. They did that on purpose to sell games.

It’s slimy like a lawyerism for a reason. They lied on purpose with implication. But stopped short of a viable civil case threat.

Jedi. Please tell me you at least get paid to defend Blizzard night and day?

I’m not defending anyone. I don’t have my head stuck in the sand like most people do. Big difference.

Still waiting on Cain to be moved next to the stash in Act 5… Stupid simple change, but they won’t do it.

If calling them coldhearted, greedy, slimy bastards is defending them you would be right.

There was one change they posted the hint for or whatever that never came to be. Some people speculated gem stacking. Wish they would at least tell us what that was even if we aren’t getting it.

I mean he’s over here saying they never promised future updates. Bodach is right, they branded it as a live service game that would continue to receive updates. They pulled the ol bait and switch.

I know you feel lied to but honestly. The game is a one time payment and they said updates would slow down.

No one in their right mind would expect to get new content, balance patches, runewords etc every ladder right?

I am surprised (not impressed) they even bothered to add anything beyond the initial fixes.

Way after selling the overwhelming majority of copies based on “live” service.

They shouldn’t have sold it as a live service game. If they didn’t, then people wouldn’t be expecting it. That’s the problem.

As far as a viable business motive behind such a thing, illustrating to the gaming world that they stick with all games they dub “live service” helps sell future games. Players can have confidence that the game will continually be developed, whatever it may be. It’s not like there’s no reason to invest in games that don’t directly generate a lot of money. They’d be investing in their brand.

Clearly they don’t care about their brand, but the business model is sound.

They lied, or MSFT rugged it and doesn’t care.

And all I personally want is for them to lift a finger for the bare minimum, which is bot ban waves. They won’t even do that. Probably not even running warden anymore.

Problem with this is it costs time and money and might even end up being counter productive because people would actually stop buying new copies for their bots if they get banned too often. From a business perspective it makes more sense to do fewer ban waves like maybe twice a year, then people will buy new copies again

What I find strange is I imagine there are easily like 10 true dedicated D2 players who would gladly volunteer their time to implement a few common sense community driven changes to the game every ladder. The game could be getting better for free and yet they don’t. I imagine it’s due to legal and ego reasons unfortunately

Its not a small indie company anymore. They dont have a passion for the game itself like Blizzard North had and its not the developers that make the calls. Its a huge corporate business with lots of pigheaded suits making the calls whose only interests are MONEY and pleasing the shareholders. They dont give a s… about any product that doesnt make money and they sure as hell dont let other people mess with their product

outa curiosity, do you know any AAA game which gets updatesfrom the user base?

Iplayed GW1 pretty intensly and it was crystal clear that a few players were lightyear ahead of the devs, even posting very insightful analyses of patches and offering constructive alternatives/feedback/suggestions. Yet they got ignored like everyone else.
Shame they never made a sequel …

D2R does not make money for Blizzard outside of initial sales. At this point I don’t know that any of us can assume that anything happens at Blizzard without a potential revenue stream. Diablo Immortal is getting regular content updates because it makes money. It’s unfortunate for sure but it is what it is. As long as they keep trying to polish the turd they released last year, we won’t get anything on D2R

Even if they attempted to add a season pass to D2R or something similar, they would be flamed for it. There is really no point in complaining about it now. Blizzard not making good on what they claimed is not anything new.
