D2R: Charsi, suggestion

Hi to community, I am D2LoD long fan. As I have noticed some refreshing work done to the game I want to suggest something from my side.

Why not use Charsi imbuing to be of multiple use?
Lets say by adding an option to Charsi menu at Hell difficulty to reset her quest progress?

“When I fled the monastery, I left behind a second Horadric Malus, my other enchanted smithing hammer.”

Joke aside, as long as the cost is balanced reasonably against the two methods the game already has to get rares (magic find and gambling), this seems fine. Not personally what I would prioritize, but wouldn’t hurt.

:beers:

I wonder how people laughed when they have introduced a resetting skills and abilities from Akara

(are there also any jokes for " The time has come for you to destroy Mephisto’s Soulstone!"?)

Joke aside, isn’t Charsi used to get a rare item while gambling has a slight change for obtaining a rare?
I won’t argue about the need to change a Charsi, nor promote it any further, but I think a change like I have suggested would not be the big effort to deliver

Yes, Charsi guarantees the output is rare (and also has increased chances for certain staffmod combinations if I recall correctly versus other rares), whereas with gambling it’s a chance. That’s my point in saying the cost should be balanced with that in mind. If it’s too easy to just get Charsi to imbue, gambling loses value for rare items (e.g. circlets). Charsi is already good for rare ethereal items and some class-specific rares (since several class-specific items cannot be gambled), so it would need to be done carefully, that’s all.

Yeah! When I am gambling an Amulet I do buy a bunch of them, check and sell, until I am without gold. So I can gamble many of them in a quick time.
I do rarely gambling other things than Amulets and rings. And doing so I am looking for example for +50% mf.

Loop for: Create a game, run and find a hammer, bring it back, imbue item, reset quest.
It would take more time, and you would need to have an items ready for imbue.

I have posted my suggestion as I think it could deliver more satisfaction from game giving a purpose to visit Barracks more that 3 times per character

I mean, we can basically make rare items via crafting, however it’d be nice to relax the restrictions on which specific type of armors and weapons that can be used for crafting.

I think once you’re well geared you can do the Imbue quest so easy, that if the only thing you had to do was reset the quest, and complete it again, that would not be enough cost to get another reward.

Perhaps there could be some cost associated with having her do it multiple times for you though? She does it once to thank you for getting the Malus back, but obviously she’s capable of performing this feat with her hammer, so maybe she should start charging you an appropriate
fee for repeats?

You already can, just get the quest done on any level 1 and just imbue only diadems…

(you will probably need a 2nd account)

IIRC you need to be lvl 12 to get the quest, but not like that’s really much different! I think the advantage OP was looking for was maybe getting to do it on a high level to open up item type restrictions?

Yeah, level 8 requirement.

Yeah, level 8 to interact with the mallet. Den of evil clear in p8 get you to level 6. Getting from 1 to 8 is where you can either “rush” yourself or have a solid level 1 gear set.

Or just join a public game and help some level 8+ player finish the quest as your lvl 1 is in party.

Alternatively, separate account that doesn’t have q done interacts with the mallet, lvl 1 picks up, leaves party and turns in Q. This requires saving Cain first.

All depends on the cost of resetting, if it’s just click and reset than a hard pass, it would basically be printing rare of your choice, if you need to do decent amount of work than I could see it work.
Or you might simply add this to her “crafting” options or the horadric cube after she “teaches” you in the quest instead of resetting the quest and just have it cost some rare crafting maths (already in the code, just need unlocking), the appropriate items for example.
Not against the idea or something similar as long as it has a real cost.

Just make it so it costs like a quater to half of max gold. Then itd take ages. Or a mid level rune maybe + gold. But then its cool from a lore perspective since she has the hammer why wouldnt she help the adventurers defeat the prime evils?

Lets say we can mf for a particular key item that grants Charsi the ability to imbue an white item. Properties are based on the ilvl of the white item that was found. Keep it simple.

The particular quirks that make Imbue not just a cube recipe are:

  • Output ilvl is based on character level, not input ilvl
  • Output is guaranteed to have at least one staffmod if the item type if eligible
  • The chance for 2 or 3 staffmods on the output item increases with character level

I think finding some specific item is fine as the price for Charsi to imbue again, but it should actually be an imbue; otherwise it may as well just be a cube recipe if you’re using input ilvl.

Why not? If a new key item you can find just about anywhere in Hell difficulty exist to give Charsi another Imbue then you will get a new and improved Imbue which the quest doesn’t offer. Just set it’s drop rate rarer than Vex/Ohm level but more common than a Lo rune. Just keep giving the developers ideas. They can make anything happen.

Just make charsi give a daily quest. Once per day you can go up to get, pick up a temporary quest and complete it. OR, just like with tokens, make people find pieces of an item to make into a token to reset Charsi imbue, anya naming and larzuk socket.

I only use Charsi to imbue ethereal weapons, like throwing spears… hoping to get good stats + durability refresh. I sold one of those back in teh day for BIG BUCKS. Best LLD weapons in teh game.

IDK… she’s not really that useful to begin with… you know you can roll rares with pskulls in the horadric cube? They go down in ilvl every time you do it, but it’s still something to consider.

I’m a fan of leaving Charsi as it is, but introducing a single use horadric mallet that does the same thing for like 1.5M (1.05 after gheed/edge) purchasable from her misc section.

Really not too different than gambling now if you think about it. Hell, its even more limited because you cannot gamble jewlery!

Side note: why not allow us to gamble runes? I mean they could be 1 million a pop? Why no jewels?
