Constant crash to desktop after ~3min

I’ve been timing how long the game will run without crashing, which has only started happening tonight (after the latest Windows 11 update, and the optional AMD update - which I have since reverted). On average the sessions last between 3-3.5 minutes, before the game just freezes and then crashes to the desktop without any notification as to why.

Seems to be “stable” if I’m playing online, or offline without any CLI arguments. However once I put in -enablerespec I will consistently crash, all inventory will be reset to what it was prior to the crash.

Specs:

Having the same exact experience. Posted my details to another recent thread about crashing. Specs very similar to yours. Also seeing a log entry in the application hang:

The program D2R.exe version 1.3.5033.0 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Security and Maintenance control panel.

Has happened every single time I tried to play since the three Win11 KBs from last week (8/9-8/10).

I think it’s worth noting I don’t have to be in a game instance for the crash to occur. It happens in menus. Definitely something between the d2r.exe process and Windows.

Blues, please respond. The game is straight unplayable. I could show you a screenshot of d2r.exe being the only application hanging on my machine for the last several months. Since Aug. 10, I might as well uninstall. Been a staunch Diablo player/supporter for 2 decades. c’mon.

To all posters in this thread, check your Windows power management. I bumped mine from “Balanced” to “High performance” and the crashing stopped immediately. August Win11 updates may have tweaked power settings?

[edit]
Oh, I guess it’s just me and OP.

Hey Everyone,

Curious if anyone else is facing lag issues and rubber banding. Ever since the update within the last few months I’ve been having issues. Before that, I never had issues and everything ran smooth. I know it’s not internet because I run many other games without issues, it just seems like a D2R issue. I’ve also had the game full stop, give me an “end task” option and I lose everything. Suggestions?

It’s not just you. Suspect a lot are lurking (like me) who have same issue (like me). Bought this game near release and it’s never been playable (Win10 64-bit, 16 RAM, SSD, nVidia RTX 2070 Super with latest drivers).

Have to say, more than a little frustrated coming back after almost a year to find the same issues persist.

I bought a windows 11 computer a few days ago that met the minimum requirements just for this game and was having the same issues noted throughout this thread. In two days d2r crashed to desktop over 20 times and was occuring more frequently.

Crashes always occured 1) Entering a portal 2) entering a waypoint 3) Teleporting right after exiting a waypoint and teleporting around river of flame and wsk 4) entering/exiting a game

I performed all the troubleshootimg methods provided by blizzard with no luck. Finally saw this post and noted my windows 11 power setting was set to “balanced” and changed to “high performance”. I can’t say that this has solved the issue but i was able to play 4 different games with no crash. Each game i traveled through at least 3 wps (high of 10 wps in one game), at least 2 tps and teleported excessively the entire time.

Fingers crossed there won’t be anymore issues but thank ya’ll for your help and hope your issues are resolved soon.

Glad it helped, I’m back to crashing again after this week’s Win11 updates. Power management didn’t change, and the mandatory updates were very small this month, according to the KBs–just a patch for a single security vulnerability, as far as I could tell.

There are nearly a dozen active threads on this problem in the forum. Not an isolated issue.

i also get crashing after few minutes since yesterday - no problems before i’m using Win10
