Stating that a significant portion of players who pre-purchased D2R are in favor of instanced loot seems like an assertion that would require some data to support it.
OK, this is what I came up with a little bit of searching (see all the quoted posts below). Do you want me to find more? There are at least 30 unique posters who favor personal loot that have taken the time to post that. In another thread where the first post advocated for personal loot as an option, it has 58 likes at last check.
Again, having the option to have either personal loot or global loot is a win-win for all. People who like the original D2 model can play their way. The people who see the merits of personal loot such as David Brevik and mysel and the myriad of others quoted below can play their preferred way.
maybe as an optional part? like in Borderlands 3, where you cant choose before creating a game if loot should be shared or personal
if i look back to my D2 memories, getting stressed out to click faster than anyone else was the worst part of it
I too agree that all loot drops should be personal . There are simply too many cons to not having it than to satisfy the vocal minority . Another issue is that if they would separate game modes to allow players to play the game the old school way, well in my opinion, those players would feel very lonely. It also takes more development time to create this mode. I would gander that the majority new and or returning players would prefer to experience the game not just visually updated but modernized for the new age . And for those that do not want to partake in this experience they can always play the original game with all its quirks . Everyone wins
I’m 99% sure they will have some sort of personal loot OPTION.
The old D2 system of FFA loot was stupid from day 1 and remains stupid.
There’s a reason most modern games have personal/assigned loot now, including all modern Blizzard games. It’s because the overwhelming majority hated FFA loot.
FFA loot should be a per-person toggleable option
I would like to vote in favour of personal loot. It was the first thing that came to my head when I heard there would be quality of life changes
I’m definitely on the frustration and anxiety side of things, if preference in the community is split on this then providing it as a game option would be best as others have suggested.
I’ve been playing Diablo 2 for about 18 years, it’s my favourite game but it’s not flawless. There’s definitely room for some QoL changes, which I would put this under.
I hope so. It will be the deciding factor of whether or not I’ll play MP
I would hate to see personal loot implemented.
personal loot wouldn´t touch the economy that much, cause personal loot doesnt mean higher droprates, and even though, seasons are much shorter then before - so why not?
For me, the best option would be to be able to choose whether you want Personal Loot or Shared Loot, just like we have on Borderlands 3.
I’m hoping the loot is personal.
I hope Diablo 2 has the personal loot. I’ve always played Diablo 2
Personal loot is a no brainer change that supports people actually co-operating while farming bosses rather than trying to solo bosses in a full game
keep classic ffa loot for open games. Add OPTION to do personal loot if u create private game
Better yet. Allow players to create public game that are either public loot or personal loot.
I see no reason not to add modern conveniences too an old game. Just make it opt in.
Your going to have a lot of new players playing D2 when this comes out. We old timers have held up this game as being one of the best ARPGs out there, but new players are going to look at some of this and not like the older systems because they are out dated. Give them the option to play a more modern version of D2.
Change it. It’s the first reason why I don’t play this game in multiplayer
absolutely. individual loot for all future Diablos
Nah, personal drops is the way to go
Just add instanced loot as a toggle when creating a match. Then both parties are happy:
Good luck getting ANY items when you’re a ranged class or if you have a cr4ppy internet or slow PC.
Personal loot was the best thing that happened
Personal loot woot! I don’t get the argument of free for all… go play with friends, position yourself better.
I think in a large part, the community helps keeps the game alive and promoting systems for multiplayer helps with that. With personal loot, people are more likely to group with randos and make NEW friends.
In terms of position, personal loot doesn’t punish range based players.
Free for all loot is a terrible system, let’s be real. There’s a reason ARPGs don’t use it anymore. It is not user-friendly or fair in any way. At the very least, make it as an option you can toggle on/off during multiplayer lobby creation… we should have the choice. (even David Brevik said he would implement Instanced loot
I would say just add some type of check box when you pick the character you wish to play. Just like how you pick if you want to be Seasonal, Hardcore, ETC. One of the boxes could be “Personal Loot” now if you pick this option you can’t play with people or even see other games that don’t have this option turned on.
Absolutely bring in instance loot, it makes people hang out in group games more, and not just for the XP and maybe gain a level or 2 as is now the case for multplayer games.
Instance loot would be better
I prefer personal loot because I dislike cheaters and want integrity to be rewarded.

Personal LOOT is a must.
If you want a robust economy, personal loot is essential.
Personal Loot Promote Economy by the Numbers
i am conflicted. maybe just have a ‘changes’ ladder and then a classic version. idk.
Like I said, the easiest way to please both sides is to have different servers for personal and non-personal loot, with one being completely incomunicable with the other.
Seems like more and more people are in favor of PL and are providing good arguments.
Also Brevik, one of the forefathers’ of this game suggested that he’d allow individual the loot in a twitch stream if he were to make things different in Diablo 2 today.
I just played Diablo 2 again for a while and it always ends up being the same picture.
The act boss tilts and the grabbing is already embarrassing somehow.
You stand there remains calm, but if you do not participate in it, you go to 100% always empty out.
I think, since I have just experienced this several times how humiliating that is, like such a greed neck there to have to participate and to experience it also with the others, is a separate loot instance is definitely the more beneficial and satisfying way to distribute loot.
Giving players the option to select shared or personal loot at game creation is the best way to handle this. It makes everyone happy (except those who like to snatch up all the loot) and it will have zero impact on the economy as you dont actually increase the drops you just assign what was dropped to players.
because shared loot is such a trash design and really a flawed point of d2, so talking about QoL this should be on top of their list, it scares away people who dont wanna smash the screen over fight on the drops. no popular games like this have that kind of system nowdays, figure why
