Charm Inventory

It didnt get MOST of us 20 years of gamplay…it got a few thousand addicts 20 years of gameplay, the vast majority of what made up D2 glory years player base abandoned the game due to several issues. A paint job wont bring most of them back, and it may not keep others very long. Ive stated it before, im okay with this game being a quick stroll down memory lane…but id much prefer to have a long term play option with a healthy playerbase and economy, and i honestly dont see that happening without QoL to draw back that casual player base.

Exactly, and thats where I agree with you most from the beginning. There has to be some freshness to draw a base and that freshness comes with QoL. I am happy there is being a remake and I am not so fanatic or beserk that I cant deal with a few upgrades so anything is really welcome by me lol. I would love to see this game running full tilt until D4 comes out, if thats the outcome I would say Blizzard was 100% successful with the Resurrection

We also have to remember, us hardcore fans…that played as teens…are now in our 30s, we dont have the time to play the way we used to…how many of us can handle the level of dedication we once put in the game…

Im 100% fine with the game releasing with very minimal changes to start, so long as the devs are open to changes if thats what we as the playerbase want. I can power through some 2001 frustrations if there is reason to believe things will get better going forward, either way it will be really fun to relive my childhood nostalgia if nothing else.

Actualy I was running many times with full inv and grabbing items to cube.

you just made my point…it has a no skill workaround, that is clunky and just outdated…so either make the cube not work for item holding, IF the intention is to force you to choose between space and power, or just make a charm bag…so we can forego the 20 year old archaic workaround.

Ever heard of the original diablo 2? It “has charm inventory”, as in : you can equip all of your charms at once (which is zero, since they don’t exist), and have your character at 100% of its potential power lvl, while still having a full free inventory to pick up items. Crazy right? But nah, we shouldn’t follow this failure of a game example. Too much change!

Come to think about it, charm inventory is the purist way, since it reverts this abomination of a system introduced by lod.

Anni and Torch are the only 2 charms you need in this game, rest just extra for PvP, or to overkill in PvM.
Adding charm inventory makes game too easy, people can fill inventory with potions, would also make botting more easy

Yikes!!! Charms are fun! By your logic maybe if we are going back to D2 we can remove all the ladder rune words introduced while we are it. Hmmmm because maybe drastic changes are going to make it a different game and the only reason they are remaking this game is because remaking classic games is the new trend and this game actually has a decent following to warrant a remake. I mean I had to prepurchase this game to be able to write this chat. I am going to give my opinion, and the more idiots like you that respond make it seem like a good idea not to make changes if its going to attract the likes of you!

I am against a charm inventory. It’s a tradeoff between space and power. If power was the only thing that mattered like many people claim, then you would be using 40 charms all of that time. But that isn’t the case, because you still need some space to loot. The amount of space is up to you.

No charm inventory.

Power wins every time unless you are loot grinding, cube and TP tome is all you need, just go back and forth between town often it’s slow but allows you to carry as many charms as you can.

Though honestly I think charms were a bad addition In LOD.

What a load of crap.

There is NO TRADEOFF between space and power.

If you want to fill your inventory with charms you will do it anyway.
If you want to pickup all junk in the game, you will do it anyway.

The only difference is going to town 300 times per game vs 30 times. And thats the only difference.

300 times per game? Were you playing the perfect drop mod?

No by my logic, we fix the flaws introduced by lod, and it will still remain a good old diablo 2.
While

Keep claiming here that, having a free inventory like in the original d2 is

I remember playing single player D2 younger than a teen and then LoD came out and there were all new charms, runes, a new act and a new brother! I was ecstatic and loved the game even more! I don’t see how you speaking to reverting back to the original D2 is relevant to anything that is going on here on planet Earth because that’s obviously (if you can read) not what is being discussed. I still have my 3 install/play/cinematics discs. Give me your address and I will send them your way. All the original D2 nostalgia you can handle!

I would like to point out that major problem for hardcore players.

In hardcore, you need to make a decision between being stronger, have more life, mana, res and basically the ability to hold items. For my experience, Ive mostly always stuck with a free 8x2 area, which means I was constantly missing 8 spaces of charms just so I can grab good loot. Once I felt geared enough and wanted to head for 99, I would just fill my inventory in charms and let people grab basically all the drops. There is still the option of opening inventory up while boss dies for the big loots, you can leave a game with an item in your hands and it will remain in your hands.

Not making the right decision directly or indirectly can cause a death. Sure on hardcore if we had the free 10x4 area to store charms, we would always use it with crappy charms, just to lessen the chances to die.

It’s a big part in hardcore because most good players will tend into less charms and ability to grab good items, wherea players with a bit less skills will stick to full charm just to make sure they won’t die.

Therefore, more experienced players have more chances to grab a said item.

It’s an important thing in diablo II, another very important decision that directly affects gameplay, and for that simple reason, even though, yes, it’s a very good QOL, i’m just 100% agaisnt it. Too big of an impact on the game’s difficulty.

Remember, diablo II is a decision based game, you have the decision to choose between

  1. Filling inventory up and causing yourself a slowdown in mfing, or
  2. leaving some space in your inventory and hoarding, or
  3. Choosing which items you bring back to town while having an almost full inventory.

What you want is basically #1 and #2 together, while not having to think about #3

So you chose to go to town 300 times instead of choosing whether to pick up said item or not. You also chose 300 vs 30. No one is forcing you to have an inventory full of charms you can play the game completely without charms because it was done for years this way.

I choose to have enough room for me to only pick up one full size item like a polearm. It is a choice I make. Does it make me go to town xyz number of times, yep. If I am going to town too often then I need to use less charms and will put them in my stash till done mfing. It makes me weaker and easier to kill which makes mfing more fun.

So it affects the game greatly and that doesn’t even include hardcore. You just are playing with a weak (low level) character or an unbalanced build. Which guess what makes the game difficult and you are forced to make decisions. If you build is so charm dependent then you need to question the build or items you are using on the actual character. Only reason people want this is laziness.

You are also going to have to explain to players how you have this separate charm inventory and how to use it. If you decide to do this they should show them hanging all over you so you look like a giant wind chime and you can see how ridiculous you look.

I actually think with the number of charms you are given currently it makes the game too easy. So…If anything limiting the number of charms like Mr. Llama said to like 4 rows of 4 would give you plenty of room in your inventory. There problem solved play with less charms.

Let’s get the op’s post to 200 likes! We need a charm inventory. The graphics and everything look amazing in the alpha, that small inventory looks like such a pain though! Make it optional so that people that don’t want to use the charm inventory don’t have to.

OP has a good point about controllers and moving items into the cube etc too.

After playing with it, I have a hard time going back.

Once again, it should be a new expansion feature.
