Character models haven't been fixed

Not sure why you guys keep engaging the green member.
I did myself a favor long ago and put her on ignore.
She is an older lady, who hates beautiful woman, and thinks
an attractively built woman is unreasonable in a fantasy game.
I am older too, and I can tell you that not all of us think that sexiness, or
beauty is bad, the opposite actually, something to strive for.
The minorities are responsible of censoring and wrecking anything
nice in society, to them, we all need to feel and look ugly, so they can
feel good about themselves.
To hell with that, this is a fantasy game, make the characters look cool,
attractive, and something you would want to play, without feeling guilty,
cause there are others who hate themselves.

My biggest issue with the characters is they break the lore. They are supposed to be young and inexperienced recruits who set out to defeat evil and prove themselves to the Sisterhood.

Now they are middle-aged, tired heroes who look like they would rather be doing anything else than fighting yet more monsters. The most jarring moment comes when you hear their voices. They clearly don’t match the characters anymore.

If these characters were in another game, I would have no issue with them but this is not a new game or a sequel. They are not supposed to age with the players. I also find it more than a coincidence that they are styled very similar to the Diablo 4 characters, which leads me to believe it was not VV who designed them but actually Blizzard who mandated they be redesigned to better match their new game and make the cross-sale easier for people to do.

Great post, completely agree

I saw Rhykers video. Some clickbait claiming they fixed the character. All it was, was the camp fire lighting up the caverns in her face.

While I completely agree with a lot of posts above, I always had the feeling, that , in all their remakes, VV struggle with chara models, they excel in environments, lightning etc, but always seems to struggle a lot on modƩlisation and style on chara models and design.
Unfortunately, it’s even worst in d2r.
It’s interesting to see how ppl react when I switch from original to remake ig:

  • wow great work, seems amazing but… The main char seems less attractive/ beautiful/ stylish etc
    Especially on the Amazon.
Sin has been broken either :disappointed_relieved:

Edit : I have some concerns with armor pieces too, just look at vampire gaze ,just an exemple, omg it’s ridiculous now, we jumped from a super stylish greeb skull head with horns to a… Green Trash on the head ?
Please VV , just try to be more faithful, if you can’t design.

Every day I think of getting a refund more and more. They made the characters this way for goodboy twitter points. They don’t care about our opinions at all.

They could refer to the fan fix that’s been going around.

It’s not a bad idea. You can always buy it again once they fix what they need to.

I don’t really see incompetence as a valid explanation. They get many of the things right and also very accurately right. if you look at the A1 Merc Rogue, the accurately portrayed her flat forehead, the leatherstraps on her left arm and leg and added somewhat appropriate gear for bow shooting (left arm now has a leather bracelet to protect against the bow string, right hand has a glove now, thats how the 30% was supposed to be).

Even with the Golem design they found old D&D pictures of the golems and accurately portrayed them after that.

the main cast (and a few npcs) stands out pretty much there and just don’t fit the amount of detail they put in otherwise.

This is true. I do like the design of the new rogues. Same along with all the designs in Act 1. From how the corrupted rogues look, to how Tristram is in Act 1. It’s all well done.

With the main character models, It’s been said by a multiple of people here, that they aged with the audience that played them when the game first release. I am not sure if this is confirmed by Blizzard themselves, however, a lot of Diablo 2 fans are in their 30’s now. It’s not unreasonable that Blizzard had VV do this.

With that said, even if that’s not the reason why they made the characters that way, they still look better than they did back in Alpha.

I can tell you I haven’t aged as hard as the characters have.

But I don’t think blizzard planned to age the characters with us. There are other examples of censorship and toning down throughout the game. Game lore dash had some video on it.

Same here, but we are the minority in this case.

I know, I have watched his video. I just don’t think it’s for the reason’s he stated. China, rather recently, increased there rules when it comes to underage gamers below the ages of 18. Now, children over in China, can only play an hour a day on the weekends, and only holiday’s.

This is going to be huge deal now. For that was largely the interest Blizzard had in expanding their Triple A releases. But I have to ask, Blizzard should have realized this right? So, perhaps the reason everything seems censored, Is because Blizzard for their marketing, have been using the Chinese digital version. Their maybe some truth to this because somewhere on Reddit, their is an uncensored version of Diablo II R, which could be our version, that shows Victims being hanged like how the original shows it in Act II.

The reddit post is somewhere here. I doubt it was a fake.

you don’t recall the name of the post or any details? would like to see it

To be honest, I don’t really care if the reasons for the changes are China censoring, political ideology, insider joke of aging the characters with the audience, orders from above. The result stays the same. Incompetence usually would have a correction as a result if the mistakes are explained properly. The others don’t.

With that said, even if that’s not the reason why they made the characters that way, they still look better than they did back in Alpha

I posted 2 pictures for comparison. Im not even sure if they changed anything at all. Here are the pics:

I found it. It was from Bloodshot.

Characters art designs changing is a disrespect to Diablo 2 game, Diablo 2 devs and Diablo 2 fans! Modern versions are hardly recognizable as Diablo 2 characters.

dont care about the models just care that the graphic is updated and is good enough to play and enjoy mfing…

The Amazon had breasts and a pronounced waist, but now they are not.

The main problem with D2 RES is the rendering of characters and NPCs. I consider completely changing the artists responsible for this direction. Due to their age, politics and personal development, they are not able to recreate the picture that the fans drew 20 years ago.

Oh, you know the art team at VV?

How many are there? What are their ages, genders, backgrounds, politics, or experience?

Would it be fair to say you have no idea who they are and are making a baseless statement that happens to fit your point of view?

They can make anything they wanted to. They chose not to.

no one would be able to recreate thousands/millions of different images in 1 character model…
