I agree with the overall sentiment, that battle net 2.0 was piss poor when it came out, and it should have had many of the classic battle net functionalities from the get go.
However, what you’r’e saying is not true. you can write across games, either via in-game friend list or through the app. You have voice chat. You can form chat groups on the app. the battle net app essentially works more or less like discord, the only feature I am missing is the share screen…
Popping across to a PM system isn’t the same as joining your friend groups chat channel and seeing whats up. You’d have to check with everyone individually, but I do see you point. As for the rest of everything you mentioned exactly the issue that it operates like discord, but isn’t as good. Meanwhile if I’m sitting in my discord and you’re sitting in yours, me and you never meet in game. I’d have no way to chat with you in game cuz chat is broken 24/7 so you might never be added to my friends list.
As for everyone who wants to play SSF, singleplayer is a good placeholder, and probably the best you’re going to get. Also IMO isn’t needed, but all good if thats what they work on next, because they do have a track record of creating useless stuff.
Beyond that they really should just revert all their trash changes, give the QoL update that pretty much everyone agrees on and would benefit from, but I doubt that ever happens either.
Mind you, I am not defending Blizzard. I have plenty of critiques toward them.
I miss the in-game clan functionality from WC3 and WoW.
D3 has clans, but not as good.
However, I’d argue that the main problem is not even the missing features.
It’'s the games that have lost their teeth and their unapologetic, kick @$$ factor.
Until people learn to put their foot down and not buy crap, that’s what we’re going to get.
By now I saw plenty of posts, people regretting the fact, that they bought D4.
I have criticized D3 for years and was mostly ignored and mocked by shills, who claimed, that my analysis wasn’t objective, but based on nostalgia for D2.
Yet the people who like D4 can’t provide a single logically sound argument as to why the game is good and point to a single feature, that the previous games haven’t done better. Funnily enough, a lot of the people who like D4 say crap along the lines of “the game makes me feel young again” which… if that’s not nostalgia, then I don’t know what is.
And now in D2R we have the kind of people, who want to turn D2R into D3.
Read my exchange with the OP above.
The boycott won’t work. We failed and everyone is trapped in by the Activsion rushed, basic, buggy, trash they will always produce because it is simply more profitable. Less production time and less development cost couple with 10’s of millions buying their titles no matter how bad the reviews are. They make it just good enough for you to get past the time threshold where you cannot request a refund. Out of the millions of dollars perhaps people like me and you cost them by not buying D4, there are 100’s of millions of dollars they’re getting for it, and they’ll get again when they release whatever crappy expansion they make.
And the thing is everyone is somewhat right, 60 dollars and they’re goign to get 40 or 50 or 100 hours of fun and be done with the game. It does have some value in that ratio. But they’ll never create SCBW/WC3/WoW/D2LOD of the new age. That game will never exist because they spend all their time chasing money, and honestly no matter how much it sucks I can’t blame them greedy as they are.
I highly doubt D4 has sold 10 million copies.
Games like D3 and Overwatch made ridiculous number of sales over the course of years, not on day one.
Don’t forget – there’s plenty of youngsters, that get into gaming and buy what they hear is popular. They don’t have the criteria of someone, who has played for 20++ years, hell, many of them haven’t even been alive for that long. They simply don’t know any better.
the answer is reverting all the changes they’ve made concerning mosaic, TZ and sunder (maybe switch TZ, it’s not the WORST idea in the world just implemented badly) .
giving back fhr and WSG.
monthly ban waves. or even a double ban wave right before ladder resets so botters are deterred from buying so many accounts and ruining it right away…
i think auto on going bans would be best but we ALL KNOW they want the botters money. the average player has lost the war on having a good game it seems.
We will never know the numbers, they keep that hidden nowadays for whatever reason. You could make assumptions perhaps off of incomplete data, but you’d never know.
But D4 had and has a massive advertising campaign, I would be surprised if it didn’t hit at least 10. They paid every streamer and youtuber to play the game, they flooded every advertisement on every gaming related media. I was however talking about their other titles that are rushed out, not specifically the Diablo franchise because these types of RPG games aren’t the most popular genre, but even still 10 mill wouldn’t surprise me that much.
Didn’t they say they’re not going to release sales numbers for any of their titles anymore? Do we know confirmed total D2R sales? I can see why they do this though in their greed.
Game is releasing = higher stock price
Releasing poor numbers = lower stock price
Only releasing high numbers when a game does well = knowingly manipulating stock price on top of everyone knows when you don’t release the game did poorly.
So keeping it hidden keeps the stock inflated because something is always releasing, so the assumption is they made good money off of it and there are no numbers to verify otherwise.
Unfortunately, with the prevalence of MTX and subscription income from games, # of copies sold is a somewhat antiquated statistic when it comes to revenue. Publishing “# games sold” numbers is somewhat pointless financially unless it’s like crazy high. It’s only one variable in a rather large equation.
But D2R and D4 aren’t subscription based. They might have some cosmetic sales, but they could simply state hey we sold XX numbers of copies and sold 3 million in cosmetics.
It has nothing to do with the state being antiquated, and everything with being able to hide if you do perhaps have a failure. Btw IIRC all of activision’s titles are almost all are paid for up front and not subscription model with the exception of WoW I think. So honestly there isn’t much of a variable. D4 sold more than D3 sold more than D2R, and Call of Duty sold more than all of them.
SSF - isn’t it already available with offline content? With no trading and single player only, what’s the point of bringing it online, just to see who can get to level 99 first? No offense, but I honestly don’t see much need to further splitting the player base. There’s already SC/HC, L/NL, Classic/Expansion, adding SSF mode online would be splitting the player base into 6 additional categories. There’s already been quite a lot of complaints of not enough games to join, splitting the player base would make it even worse.
If you really love SSF, just play in offline. Or if you have to play online and wanna do SSF, just make single player games with passwords and disable the join from friends (or don’t make any friends). My vote is a hard NO on this SSF mode.
It wouldn’t split the player base… No need for an additional realm/server… Just a simple SSF option on character creation. People who play both SSF and Ladder are going to do so anyway. As far as not finding games, that always happens shortly after someone reaches 99 anyway. Plus there’s all of the bogus RMT game names that we have to deal with now.
The only reason I can see anyone being against the idea is that it will cut into their RMT/Forum Gold sales, because SSF ladder participants won’t be able to purchase items to help push them ahead. God forbid having a ladder mode where our wallets can’t determine the outcome.
Why destroy the entire multiplayer experience just so you can have your name on the leaderboard? Some botter will just be up there anyway. Why can’t you just play by yourself currently?
Also, if Blizzard can identify and ban bots at 6 month intervals, why can’t they just do this on a daily interval and fix the botting issue for good?
