Balanced? Good Grief

The problem(s) are:

Grief is ultimately the best
Grief is ultimately the cheapest
Grief is ultimately the fastest and achieves all breakpoints
You never ever have to repair a phaseblade Grief, ever.

That other classes have AoE ability does not fix the above. There are loads of cool weapons and runeword bases that noone uses, because the meta is too easy to achieve. Its much easier to come first than it is second or third.

Also, please make scourges have 6 sockets. thanks

I really believe grief had a typo that never got fixed, i think they meant for it to be % and not straight added dmg.

the way it is now is just dumb as it outclasses everything else and can be put in the games fastest one hander.

if they switched it to % i think it would balance out.

I’ve always thought this too. Once you realize +340-400 damage was meant to be 340-400% enhanced damage, just like literally every other RW in its class, it’s hard to believe it wasn’t an accident that was simply never fixed. Because nobody was really at the helm on D2 anymore.

Totally agree. It would still be solid.

Grief will never be nerfed.

No offense, but it won’t. Even the much cheaper Oath would outperform it, due to Indestructible mod and 50% ias.

Yep. Runewords killed all the interesting uniques, viable builds and made the game boring.

Oh look, another “Cry about Grief” thread.

And yet without runewords this game would be garbo.

Im cool with blizz stealth nerfing items equipped by players who qq for it here. Id be happy to supply them with a list of qqers who want grief or enigma nerfed for example.

You know, to promote diversity of dead game and all that good stuff.

Really? More players and builds / pvp boomed before them. Lots of people dipped out after they came about.

The gods left and noobs like you arrived.

Grief makes weapon choice so boring.
Grief RW should be changed to:
Cham, Lo, Zod, Ohm, Sur

Tadaaa done

You’re right. Maybe leave +100 damage on it or something and tweak the % ED. Some cool unique mixture, I dunno. It should obviously be better than Oath and Death.

Heres the thing - Nerfing Grief wouldnt go back and change the old ones would it? It would only change the oens that have yet to be made. So those old Griefs with +damage would be really rare and sought after, as there is a finite amount. That is an acceptable position.

But just increasing the runes required to make one would fix this issue as someone said above. Make it the most expensive runeword as it is the best damage. Some even say swap Lo with Zod in rune oder (making Lo the rarest rune).

Do something though. For the sake of ladder.

It’s not that easy to make… you make it sound like everyone has 5os phase blades and Lo’s just laying around. LOL

It took me and my friend 3 months to finally each make a Grief and he just lost his due to a craptastic bug… Lo’s aren’t cheap bro.

Maybe if you’re cheating and buying them for 5 bucks a pop, I guess it doesn’t PHASE on you…

Your Lo is worth less than all the other higher runes and drops more frequently, yet it provides the best possible outcome. It is easier to come first than second or third.

A 5 socket phaseblade is really very common indeed. Guess what? You dont even need a superior one for 15% ED as it doesnt really benefit from it. Any ole 5soc phase will do.

For the record, i would never buy any sort of item. ever.

Better idea i suggested :
Change “added damage” to
“added max damage”.
So I mean added damage will be 0-400 randomly on hit. If it is a perfect grief.
That will change everything.
Grief should be like this.
Make it then work on kicks.

This is acceptable. 5678.

They have to release a ladder with complete renovations of all items and runewords to fix grief, otherwise what’s the point? They’ve done it before they released 1.09 and 1.10. No reason D2R devs cant do it too and grandfather in the old Griefs as they are.

This too is acceptable. Actually better.
