AVX Issues / Game Launches, then Crashes on Older Processors (CPU)

Which main board did you ordered?, I’m just curious because I was also thinking to get the Ryz5 5600X

All my friends are already geared out, no point in me playing for nostalgia now, they really sucked the air out of that one.

Hey guys that’s an answer i got from my ticket today;

Lorrothir
Hey there!

Tech Specialist Lorrothir here, and I’ll be working with you on this. Reading over the request I can totally understand where you’re coming from. I know it’s not easy finding out about hardware compatibility errors. I’ll do my best to help go over the information.

Since the i5-750 was released in 2009, it’s about 4 years older model than the i3-3250 that’s listed as the minimum. In some cases raw processing power isn’t the only factor as newer generation processors will also have new features or architecture that can be required for games in some cases.

Of course our developers do still want to find a way around this even for the older processors that may no longer be supported. That way if players can run the game they will be able to! We do not have an ETA on this but hopefully it will be soon!

I wish we had a more direct solution here but I hope the info helps. If there’s anything else you might need just let us know.

I do not mind having to upgrade computers I just would have enjoyed some notice.

msi b550 chipset with pci 4.0… thought its something for the future… when graphic cards will be cheaper tho

I just came to rant with the rest of the people here… Been following this thread for a few days- as was suggested by the response I got from my original “support” ticket.

The best part for me? I was told…
“If you would like to request a refund for Diablo 2 due to this though, please use the refund request page here:”

request for refund denied…

Unfortunately we are all in the position that we have to get new CPUs. If you are on this link you probably have been a gamer for a long time. You have learned throughout the years that you don’t have to have the latest rigs to play games. As long as they run the games with at least medium graphics and minimal lag we are good. A lifetime of a CPU is about 10 years or so, GPUs are about 5 years. Not that they don’t run longer, but that’s when they start having difficulty running the newer games. I’ve known that I needed a CPU for a couple years now but can’t afford $2000 right now and have to make do with what I have until I can. The AVX problems have come up in a few other games in the last couple of years, Cyberpunk and Death Stranding for example, so this is not a new issue and as long as AVX is listed on the requirements we know we can’t play it. That’s where this game has the problem. Most of us played Diablo 2 when it came out originally and absolutely loved it. It was one of those ground breaking games that created it’s own genre and I have played most of those games in the genre. We were so excited that we were going to get a Diablo 2 that would actually look good on our more modern setups. We look at the store page and check the game requirements. We exceed the minimum requirements. a lot of us exceed the recommended requirements, so we preorder the game and get excited waiting to revisit our old friend with a new coat of paint. Absolutely no mention whatsoever of AVX in the requirements. Then the day finally comes, it’s released! You wait for the download (if you didn’t do if already) and then it’s finished and you get the blue play button. You anxiously hit the play button exited with nostalgia to revisit one of your favorite games. The button says loading, then playing, then goes back to the play button. You try again and the same thing happens. So you check the forums and learn it’s a problem with AVX. So you wait seeing they know the problem and thinking they will fix it. They finally acknowledge the problem, saying that day or maybe the next morning. They release bug fix notifications on stuff they are working on with no mention of AVX. We raise an uproar on this forum so that add a line to the bugfix saying it’s in the top three priorities. Then they tell up they will work on it over the weekend (knowing they were not) and it’ll be monday. Late in the day on monday they tell us we don’t meet the minimum specs (even though according to their list we exceed them) and it might take a week to work it out. Now it’s near the end of the week and not a peep. Please don’t insult our intelligence Blizzard!!! You should have listed AVX in the requirements and we would have not bought the game. We understand that we are a small minority and fixing the bugs for the greater mass is your top priority. Just tell us that. Don’t ignore, lie, and treat us like idiots to cover your behind because you forgot to list AVX in your requirements. That is why this forum is so angry and toxic is because you lie and string us along. I understand that you are covering your behinds from a potential lawsuit because not listing AVX on your requirements is a crime. You reputation is already low in the community with your workplace issues and Warcraft 3 debacle, but don’t make it worse by treating people who have been customers for decades this way. Just be honest with us. We know that your company is in turmoil right now and people make mistakes. Tell us we are low priority but you will work on the AVX issue, heck tell us if you are not going to fix it at all and let us make the choice to refund it or keep it for when we eventually get a new CPU. Just be honest and don’t string us along. That is why so many people here are mad. Sorry for the long post and it’s hoping that Blizzard (if they even read these) sees this and it helps them understand why we are being so toxic.

Same here…did a refund Tuesday as I no longer have faith. If there’s a fix, great, I’ll re-buy the game. Would love to play it.

Nice, I was thinking to get the Asus Prime X570-Pro, but there are very good B550 too… by now I will still wait because I still can run all games with decent FPS, even D2R if they remove AVX…

______ Gok Wan ______

Yeea you are right! The only endgame best thing is 99lvl ladder char. Some Unique elite items and sets are available only on ladder. So go rebuy it lol

would like to know how many people have this avx problem tho?
how many current d2r players
and how many still waiting to play (avx issue)
this would kinda let us know if blizz is ever going to fix this or not

What makes me mad is that to run a game you need a good GPU, CPU is secondary, while my GPU ran the beta at 60fps it was at 100%, but my CPU was sleeping at 30%…
I don’t understand the “old” statement when speaking about CPUs, the AVX thing is a crap that everytime some company has tried to use in their games, they have had to remove it at the end(Assasin’s Creed, Cyberpunk,…)

When I had my Pentium II 350Mhz, the next generation was 33% faster and the next was X2 faster… Now I have a 10 years old I7 980 and the best current Intel CPU is only X2 better in sigle core and X4 in multi core(10 generations later), but since games are not optimized to use multi core, you only need to know how powerful is your CPU in single core to play a game… the improvements in CPUs are minimal now from one generation to the next one, not like 25 years ago. My “old CPU” Runs D2R at 30% capacity, so the “old CPU” argument can go to hell(ironically).

Off the wall at least a couple thousand out of the “hundreds of thousands” that are actively playing it. so maybe 1% .5 - 2%?

AVX is going to be an issue for us with older CPUs because not only will it be a requirement for games, it’s a requirement for Windows 11. We will just be out of the loop until we can afford to get a new computer. I’ve been through this cycle many times over the years. What makes this such a debacle for this game release is their failure to list AVX in the requirements.

Steam’s current hardware numbers show a little over 5% don’t have AVX and about 16% don’t have processors that support AVX2. I would imagine the numbers are similar here. Though with it being a remaster of an old title, it might skew slightly higher here.
