Anyone misses the piercing guided arrow like in 1.09?

Just wondering. It was super fun to play an amazon with guided arrow + piercing like a machine gun. I wish they brought it back.

Now it’s like there is no way of having an amazon with a bow or a crossbow and be powerful in any way. It feels pretty meh. Just my opinion. What do you think?

Utterly broken in PvP. But if Blizzard doesn’t care about PvP, they could bring it back since nothing will match the MA Assassin.

Yes I had a bowazon that used GA in it’s heydey… That was alot of fun. Like all the previous ly great builds nerfed into oblivion by Blizz, their deeds of valor will be remembered!

idk why they didn’t just nerf it a little bit.

Not really. The problem is it would need to be PvM only. In PvP, it was the kind of build that was super fun to play but miserable to play against.

I mean I miss it, but it was broken and a bug, not a feature.

I absolutely miss this for boss killing for sure. Just not for PVP. I wish this could still be a thing for PVM. Really helped the bowzon with damage against bosses.

A coherent fix would be to have piercing guided arrows not able to target or hit a previously hit target. Sure, you wouldn’t be able to hit the same opponent multiple times with a single arrow, but that was an absurd effect.

No i miss running people down at ludacris barb movement speeds with a pike though that was top tier

It was not even that great in pvp… I never lost to one with my sorceress, just teleport around and shoot them with fireballs, run into town and watch the 10+ arrows fly in and deal 0 damage

Projectiles moved slowly enough that they could be out maneuvered by a leaping barbarian :man_facepalming:

Granted… I very rarely dueled anyone, but still… 0 losses to an amazon. Come on.

Did the devs actually do the nerf for pvp purposes? I never looked into it, but I assume that Bliz devs did not write out explanations for their changes at the time.

I find this post relevant, interesting & I do agree with the OP 100% “Super Fun”.
I have made couple of posts to bring back the piercing with atleast “2 hits & 1 piercing”, not 5 times as it was in Diablo 2 LOD Version 1.09.

[Bug]
Guided Arrow & Piercing.
I judge it as a bug.

Normal arrows does pierce. [Pierces]
Multiply arrows does pierce. [Pierces]
Guided arrows does not pierce. [Bug].
Cold Arrows…I have no idea, never tested it.
Fire Arrows…I have no idea, never tested it.

You fire 1 normal arrow it does physical damage & with a chance to pierce minion.
You fire Multiply arrows it does physical damage & with a chance to pierce minions.
You fire 1 guided arrow, it does physical damage & ZERO chance to pierce minion.
I do not understand this, I filled up my piercing skill & I got belt with piercing stats & I use upgraded Buriza with piercing stat & yet, it does not work, when I am firing guided arrows that does physical damage & it does not pierce.
This is where I judge “Guided arrow & Piercing” as a bug.

How it should act
Under 100% piercing, it should make 2 hits + 1 piercing = 100% piercing.
100 % should always give 1 piercing.

So when firing Guided Arrow with 100% piercing.
1 Hit + 1 Piercing
Guided arrow returns back
1 Hit + 0 Piercing ( You already spend your 100% piercing)
“The End” of that arrow.

I think for pvm, it should just pierce for as long as the missile life lets it, and I don’t think it would be too OP. Bring this back!!! I would 100% main Amazon.

It essentially means that pierce stat would not mean a chance to pierce, but an (average in case of fractional) number of additional hits.

With such logic having at most 100% pierce would mean you can pierce at most one enemy (=2 hits total), with ≤ 200% only 3 hits and so on (max obtainable is 262%, with Wisdom (33%), Razortail (33%), Buriza (100%) and slvl 43 Pierce (96%)).
That’d be a huge nerf to builds using AoE arrows used against tight packs of monsters (Freezing, Exploding, Immolation), including other classes using weapons that fire Exploding Arrows.

Bring it back but make it able to hit twice or more times only if you’re using a crossbow. Tada, crossbows are useful now

Don’t know how to balance this for pvp / if it needs to be balanced for pvp, but I don’t care about pvp anyway.

My understanding is they nerfed it mostly because of PvP, because people were dying in hard core to it from getting tele-hostile’d.

I didn’t realize GA has zero % chance to pierce. Kind of makes it suck a lot.

TBH my physical bowa underperforms even with a chains of honor and a wf on her, so I’m kind of weighing my options on turning her into a brrito zon or a firezon since sunders are now a thing.

I know they had made a comment they wanted physical bowa to be a lot stronger, but then when they started buffing her the outrage was so palpable they walked it back and just kind of half buffed her and left her in a sort of bad spot. Not just GA, physical bowa in general just kind of sucks.

I have no idea what you are talking about.

Let me try a different way.
Example
I have…
Amazon & Buriza 100% piercing. No other piercing gear & no piercing skill.
If I fire 1 normal bolt, it will or should pierce the first minion due to 100% piercing from Buriza, but should not pierce the other minion behind the first minion that got pierced.

So the 100% piercing after the first pierced minion, should be spend.
This way, we wont get 5 piercing like in Diablo 2 LOD V1.09d

Max should be 100%, even if you got more piercing gear or from skills. Should not exceed 100%.

I thought that you meant that pierce should be “consumed” on a successful hit (“You already spend your 100% piercing”), so the remaining pierce chance (if originally exceeded 100%) would still be useful by being applied (and consumed) to the subsequent targets.
But you mean to restrict pierce even more, that only the first enemy can be pierced, not any subsequent one. As I said, this is a massive nerf.

How can it be a massive nerf, when guided arrow does not pierce at all?

Buff for Guided Arrow, nerf for any other skill (using pierce). Unless Guided Arrow was supposed to use a different pierce mechanics than the other skills, capped at 1 pierce.
