I am Unable to join friends game, when we invite it, it says character must be between levels 21 and 21, or character must be between levels 56 and 56, for example. We do not have the setting enabled that adds a level cap to join game, the issue just appeared after the last update

Same issue me and my friends are having. ALOT of people are talking about it on reddit to having the same issues.

make character difference 50, then you can play with your friends (depends your levels ofc)
it’s a bug on all consoles.
you can create a public game and they should be able to join. However I think there is a bug that stops players to join across regions.
for Example I play on PS5 in NA, buddy from EU cannot join my public game. doesn’t even show up on game list =[
I was able to establish a work around by getting a char at same level(I know that’s hard but hey it’s better than nothing), then creating a public game. once both are in game you can leave and come back with your other chars as your game shows up in Game List menu
Can confirm. Bug still unfixed, can’t join or invite friends to private game on ps5.
It’s been like this after a small patch just before holiday event with terror zones. This makes playing with friends a chore setting up some lobbies instead of just joining private games. Event is over and it’s still like this. It is really sad at this point and shows how this game is supported. I’m on Xbox, it’s the same here.
We got it to work by setting the lvl limit 2 under the creating characters lvl. So a lvl 93 sets the lvl restriction to 91 allowing chars lvl 2-99 join. So long as the range is not 1-99. Anything else shows the lvl restrictions as 93-93 or whatever the lvl of who made it was. Hope this works for you all as well

2026 January 21. This bug still exists. I still can’t play with my friends on console or on pc. Not even the solutions here with making public lobbies has worked. Solution: delete your friends list. I don’t really understand this one either, but I deleted my friend and all of a sudden I could see his game lobbies. Just delete all of your friends who play this game and then you can play with them! Thanks for making this game so playable and fun blizzard! I love being able to play with my friends after deleting my entire friends list!
Forgot to update but my friend said it didn’t work. So good for you it did.

It’s not a bug that you can’t join NA game while you are in EU and vice versa.
Different servers, so you need your client set on where you want to go.
That workaround.. Well that is just weird 
You can just as well create game with pw as ppl commonly does, and join manually by writing name&pw.
This topic is about the bug where you can’t use ‘join game’ from friend’s list or what ever, that popup you get when you rclick friend’s name

As for creating a public game with password that has never worked for me since season 13 started (on PS5). I am NA and friend is EU.
I keep getting error: “This game is no longer available to join. Please try joining another game”.
This happens while I am currently in the game and my friend attempts to join using info I give and gets the error message, regardless who hosts the lobby.
Any workarounds or updates on the issue would be greatly appreciated.
