How do you normally get out of the game?
I usually leave the game by alt tabbing and closing the window that way, I have dual monitors so I find that easier and just exit from inside a gameā¦
I donāt mean to make light of this but I wish I had a montage of every one of these incidents on video.

I really cant imagine losing a 80-something character like this. I would have to walk away from the game for a few days for sure. I am so sorry to all who took a loss in this thread. Especially when other long term diablo players who can understand exactly how much that would suck are calling you dumb besides. Harsh!

I deleted my 83 sorc last night that is my first time from pc to switch
I change controller to switch pro then hit delete key by accidentally
Lost lots time and money.

He probably thinks because he wastes time doing useless stuff (interrogating people) on these forums others are also doing useless stuff like making up deleting their character.
Add another body to the graveyard I was only a level 35 but I had gone super hard farming runes and gems.
Had several set items as well even a couple of the immortal Kings. I uninstalled and requesting refund I have zero intention of playing until this bug is fixed. Only bought the game to play with my seventy-year-old grandparents because we played it together when I was a kid.
Was pretty annoyed when they Nerfed TCP IP because you can bet I would have had a backup copy of my character.
I would have just played with my original character but you canāt play with those online and I have no way of playing with that character with my grandparents.
I was literally forced to start over and because the developers were lazy and couldnāt bother with a proper UI ended up losing my character. I will fully take ownership of the fact that I clicked the x button which in every other piece of software made in the last 10 years means exit and then didnāt bother to read just clicked okay.
But seriously change the ex off the ui make an additional step to delete the character and for the love of God make an undelete. Meanwhile Iām out probably 40 hours of my life and Iām Hella tilted.
I am very sorry this happened. Although saying it took you 40 hours to reach your level it is very possible to get back to that level much much faster than that. As much as that sucked you should maybe just take a day off and try again! 
I gotta ask cuz my curiosity is like thatā¦ how did you obtain IK set pieces at lvl 35?

This same thing happened to me I accidently hit X trying to hit A so I instinctively hit A again. Deleted my highest level character with my best runes. I am beyond disappointed in this. I uninstalled the game and requested a refund.
Sorry mate. I know how easy the mistake is to make. All we can do is hope that the devs are close to pushing out a patch that resolves this.
Just deleted my lvl 81 sorc doing the same exact thing, thought the red X was the logout buttonā¦ im seriously angry right now because the effort to get back to where i was is just gonna make me angryā¦
If i were have to type delete or the characters name like WoW this would have never happenedā¦

Holy crap. This is me. Iāve been switching between PC and Xbox for a while, and when I play on PC it takes a few seconds for the controller to start working, and sometimes it doesnāt work at all, and is basically impossible to tell if itās working.
Last night I plugged it in to play, and after a couple seconds no buttons were working. After a couple more seconds, I pressed a few random buttons to see if it was working yet. Well, it was working, and those random buttons included X and A, so my 87 Sorc with Shako, Occy, War Travs etc is now gone.
Itās such a bad UX and unbelievable that they decided it was fine for release. The very least they could do is force you to hold the button like they do when you vendor an item.
Just know youāre not alone.

How do you request a refund? I really doubt it will be honored, but itād be nice to try. I bought this on 3 different platforms, and I canāt even get a character restored. Good customer service.

You know itās not a complex problem to āsolveā right? Add a basic level of protection. Force the player to move a cursor to an OKAY button, or make them hold the A button for 3 seconds, or type ādeleteā, anything.

Not at all. Itās also not top priority and its an easy issue to avoid.
Your issue with the controller is legit. Should not be able to press x on a controller and a to delete character.
Rip 91 sorce because of this exact thing, just doing some chaos make game click down to hell witch should be default, me not looking POOF GONE. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE MAKE US SPELL DELETE!! I just made my infinity yesterday!!!
