Accidental character deletion

At this point I’m glad you deleted your char and I hope you never get it back. Dumbasses like Horizon will always exist in this world.

What they were saying is that Customer Service can’t do anything. The developers are already making UI corrections. Your toon will not be restored. Just start over.

HMU if you need a boost or items, i’ll gladly help out to see if we can get something back of what you’ve lost.

“Not to be a butthole” - Too Late. The UI is being fixed. The way it is now, your cat could delete all your characters before you were done taking a pee.

You’re an ugly human dude. Like bottom of the barrel scum of the earth kind of guy.

You think you’re such hot stuff but the truth is one day you’ll be humbled and hopefully it’s not something truly important that causes it.

He is, and he is unfortunately the scum of the earth that make people lose faith in other people, but it’s important to learn from this, that most other people are much better human beings than Atma.

How do you play for that long and not notice the red X is in fact the delete character button? They are working on it, though. Just changing it to garbage can icon would make a huge difference.

I’ve already stated my opinion on this in other threads, there’s 2 ways to avoid this. Press Esc, and have a prompt pop up nullifying everything till you click exit or stay. Or the button on the left hand side.

Why wouldn’t the X underneath the char panel not be for deleting chars? This is basic comprehension you are failing here. I wouldn’t be insulting other people’s intelligence if you can’t display any of your own.

Congrats on being that guy. I guess you are fully aware of every action you take even while drunk and cannot make mistakes. You are a god among men. You tell your bosses what to do and children how incomptent to they are for not being you.

Or perhaps this is reality where, when a guy admits he made a sleep-deprived mistake, you can try being human and consider how association works. The internet, gaming, and blizzard has a pattern that is based on itself. When one game says ‘dont step in fire’, then many more will also have the same thing so people leaern to associate this.

Now when you have an X. A red X no less. ones thoughts will usually follow turning off the application.

Then you also have the basic fact that ANYTHING turned red and in the middle of the screen is meant to be used on a regular basis. Red is the quickest to see with the brain and the more central something is the more important.

Now stop trying to make yourself look good just to feel better about something you are missing in your life. Don’t go here and show off, dont go into alchoholic anonymous groups with alchohol and drink to show off, dont do any of that.

We’ve become used to user interfaces, that require us to type in “Delete” or the “Character’s Name” right?

I can tell you when it came time for me to log out for the very first time, I went to click the little red box with the white x in it.

Thankfully I wasn’t tired and I wasn’t in a hurry and I read the window that popped up that asked me “are sure you want to delete this character…”.

I immediately recognized the potential for some unwanted/unexpected character deletions.

These systems that require the user to confirm deletion were born out of necessity. They were created because of mistakes like these. Now blizzard takes a step back and the mistakes are happening again.

Once you delete a character on Eve Online, it sits in a deletion cue for 10 hours, so that if the user did so by mistake or changes their mind, they have 10 hours to reverse it.

People defending the status quo here are just contrarians, don’t take it personal. They would probably have an argument with a worn sock if left alone with one in a room.

Ok and what did you learn

It terrifies me that you could potentially operate a vehicle on a highway with the type of decision making youve established…

Says the guy that didn’t read the English that explained that his character would be deleted if he hit accept.

Have you ever driven a vehicle? There are millions of symbols to understand and adapt to. Or are you the kind of person to drive off the road and keep going straight when the signs, and road, turns? When there is an accident at night where a symbol tells someone to go one way but the road goes another, then the city/government is responsible for fixing it. Association is a basic thing. In the same area Blizzard is responsible for their UI and the choices that it makes and what they want out of it.

Why dont you take this same energy, go out to a store, grab a bottle of alchohol, walk into an alchoholics anonymous meeting, and drink while mocking them. Same thing you seem to like doing.

But that is exactly what happened, the sign said “hey you’re about to delete your char”, and OP kept going straight and crashed.

It’s okay. The little guy was grasping the concept. Give him another 15 mins and he would have eithered figured it out or tuckered himself out and had a nappy  He’s just mad he lost his level 22 druid and wants to know if he can find the sames tomb game. He’s pretty sure there was a couple sorcs and a paladin in the game, if anyone knows what the game name is.

Okay, so basically you don’t pay attention and you want to blame other people for your own mistakes? Got it. Sorry the world doesn’t cater to your careless stupidity.

Grow up and learn to take responsibility for your own actions kid.

For someone who blames others for not paying attention you seem to be doing none of it. Let me lay this out in a way you can understand. If you even want to care.

  1. People associate the color red with something.
  2. People associate a big X in the middle of the screen with something.
  3. Blizzard UI has in the past associated deleting with something.
  4. Blizzard’s UI in D2R goes against the conventional norm of #1-3.
  5. Someone who has the common sense to associate #1-3 with the pattern they are does not realize that blizzard has decided to reverse things.
  6. He admits he made a mistake but wants Blizzard to stick with their own pattern they have made in other games, to go with the patterns established by other games, and by the basic common sense of what 99.9% of gamers associate.
  7. You want to troll.
