Heyo, and yeah dude. The spec is a lot of fun, its great to have a melee spec that actually deals aoe and I originally though managing the charge and releases would be tedious but its actually fun if you’re looking for a more engaging spec than something like the Trap sin.

Intro:
Hey, in this guide we will go over how I like to gear and play the Phoenix Sin in D2r. I’ve also included a section on how you can download the character file for single player so you can try it yourself.
I didn’t invent the spec, but I personally really enjoy it and this is how I’ve come to refine the gear, gameplay, and skills. The build can be played with relatively cheap gear, and doesn’t require end game items, like Infinity, to be efficient, but once obtained the spec goes over th…
This is how I personally like to play the Phoenix Sin:
Read the guide linked above for more up to date details
Skills:
Charge skill = Phoenix Strike
Release skill = Normal Attack
Utility skills = Dragon Flight, Burst of Speed, Venom, Blade Shield
Passive skills = Claw Mastery, Weapon Block
Attacks per Second = 3.00+ (even under decrep/holy freeze)
Faster Hit Recovery = 86%+
The reason we use the normal attack, instead of Dragon Claw or something else, is that the attack frame rates sync up better and DC wastes valuable frames during attack cycles. DC swings both claws for 5 frames each, for a total of 10 frames per click. NA and PS are 7 frame attacks, so they consume less frames to achieve the same result. Beyond that, DC can only spend the charges once, so if the first claw releases the charge, the extra claw swinging is just a total waste of 5 frames. These could have been used to build another charge stack for the next release. The game runs at 25 frames per second, meaning:
PS+DC=
17 frames for meteor = 1.47 attacks per second
24 frames for Chaos Lightening = 1.04 attacks per second
vs
PS+NA=
14 frame for meteor = 1.78 aps
21 frames for Chaos Lightening = 1.19 aps
Doesn’t seem like much, but it adds up to being able to release a lot of extra charge stacks in the long run.
Game play:
Hotkeys:
Left click:
HK1 = Phoenix Strike
HK2 = Normal Attack
HK3 = Dragon Flight
Right click:
HK4 = Mind Blast
HK5 = Blade Shield
HK6 = Burst of Speed
HK7 = Venom
HK8+ = other skills
I recommend you always have mind blast ready on right click and use your left click to cycle between charge and release skills. The reason I recommend using your charge and release skills on LC, is to help manage your charge and release skills; if you always have PS active, you will without a doubt accidentally attack more than you mean to and stack the wrong elemental charge for release. Switching skills will also interrupt the PS swing attempt, meaning you’re way less likely to accidentally stack because you’ll interrupt and be switching to your release skill.
