Got this error on Manjaro, swapped Runner in Lutris to anything other than default and it worked right away.
More info: After a fresh install I got the error as it would stop downloading at 10%. Then when I swapped Runner I had to input password again and now the launcher looked different. Tried updating WoW Classic and it started downloading without any errors.
Changed my runner to proton-experimental, it do be working now.
Currently having this issue on Window OS, new tower today.
It is happening around the 370-380mb install of classic.
Tried all the normal uninstall/install/repair thing
and errors out at the 370-380mb time of install everytime

was running battle.net launcher with GE-Proton-9-22. started getting this *840 error with Hearthstone demanding update. Tried swapping to proton-experimental, didn’t help. Installed GE-Proton9-23 and swapped compatibility tool to it, seems to have done the trick for me.
I am now able to participate in S7 in all of its glory. I run Ubuntu 22.04. I used to run D4/Bnet through Lutris. Instead launched Bnet via steam with Proton Experimental. If you don’t know how run Battle.Net on Steam, I simply followed a steam deck tutorial such as the youtube video titled " Install BattleNet on your Steam Deck (2024)" . Seemlessly updated and games loaded. D4 seems to work fine now.
