If you get the Growing Crystals buff from the Arcanist’s First Crystal book in the Sapphire Enclave and then go to the Rostrum of Transformation in Valdrakken, the dragon you’re trying to customize will show the crystal on its head/face.
The red and green dragons show the crystal largely just in their mouths, but for the blue dragon it sticks out quite a bit.
