I’m getting Cannot connect to battle.net and the issue would seem to be its an IP ban.
I know its an IP ban because if I switch to my cellphone for internet it works almost every time and I can’t get a new IP from my home isp more often than once every 24h (and a different one isn’t guarantied as its just a DHCP lease of 24h that has to run out).
There are 2 ways for me to play. 1) Wait and at random get a non banned IP which is at most 50 days per year. 2) Run my computers internet on my cellphone and use its monthly data package in about half an hour.
Diablo 2 LoD legacy IP ban is blanket blocking every one and their grandmother for no reason (reasonable reason) what so ever and apparently from forum posts its been an issue for a decade+ and still isn’t fixed. Legal players are getting random IPs from their isp and its banned because of other people having had or having the same IP getting it blocked and its to such an extent that getting a non blocked IP is virtually impossible.
Just stop banning IPs, it is that simple. Every guide on how to get around it is aimed at the overwhelming majority of players that are hit for no reason and it helps a few of them but the default of “wait 2 weeks and try again” attitude is insane. You aren’t banning any of the bot runners, map hackers or dupers so why even have any banning system at all?
If you are trying to run the game in to the ground to sell Resurrected just free upgrade all already registered legacy keys and kill the game officially. This other way is sad.
The fact that you can consistently connect using your mobile data but not your home internet does suggest that something differs between the two connections. However, from the information provided, it’s difficult to determine whether the cause is an IP restriction, ISP routing, network configuration, or another connectivity issue.

I get “You were disconnected from battle.net. Please Reconnect".” and I get it when trying to connect to battle.net. I would post a link to a pic but this forum doesn’t allow that (?).
It is only D2 LoD out of every single thing including other blizzard stuff.
How would I know how some one else having the same issue also has the same ISP? Theres 10+ different ISPs here and non of them are regional, all full national.
When ever my global IP changes I try again and if it works then it works till I get a new one, some times I have it for 3 days others only 1. I have had 4 periods of it working ranging from 1 day to 3 days in the last 1½ or so months on this computer but at another location it hasn’t worked a single day.
I have ruled out every single factor that could be stopping the connection and it is the IP. My cellphone gets a new IP every time I disable and reenable mobile data where I have twice tried getting a blocked IP that I did simply change doing that.

Yes, that is very likely the issue. There are some conditions that will trigger it in the old D2 system. The Temporary Restriction list has those for you so you can hopefully figure out what is tripping it and make it stop. I thought it was only for 2 weeks, but based on your comments that might not be the case. Oh, and trying to log in during that two week time period resets the timer on the IP ban back to zero so the 2 weeks starts again.
Note that quite a few of the things it picks up are not actually cheating or automation - but are adjacent enough to it that it trips the ban filter. VPNs for example are NOT supported for D2 LOD.
The Diablo II (2000) servers will automatically restrict connections when a game client is performing unauthorized behaviors. These restrictions exist to maintain server stability and prevent exploitative behavior such as botting and hacking.
If you are using an IP address which is shared with other users, any restriction will affect all users of the IP address. If you share your IP address with other players who have gotten a restriction, you will need to acquire a different IP address.
Connection restrictions in Diablo II (2000) can be applied for behaviors such as:
- Attempting to use an invalid CD-key
- Attempting to use a hacked or modified game client to log in to Battle.net
- Using unauthorized third-party programs or addons
- Connecting to Battle.net using a business network, cloud hosting service, VPN, or proxy
- Rapidly connecting and disconnecting from Battle.net
- Switching between accounts or characters too quickly
- Leaving and joining games too quickly
- Scrolling through skill selection too quickly using the mouse wheel
- Repeatedly leaving an area and coming back to change shop or gambling items
- Repeatedly using a spell with no cast delay such as Amplify Damage or Glacial Spike
- Repeatedly using an incorrect password
- Harassing other players
- Advertising inappropriate website urls
- Spamming text or chat commands such as /whisper or /whois
- Connecting to Battle.net with more than 8 clients
Repeated login attempts after a restriction may extend the restriction.
If you find that your connection has been temporarily restricted, please remain offline for at least 48 hours. If after 48 hours you are still restricted, reinstall your game client or acquire a new IP address.
Customer Support cannot remove temporary restrictions for any reason or help with acquiring a new IP address.
This is 100% useless. The link is to fresh install and then if it isn’t that the then temp restriction list. Neither are the issue as I have not broken any rules.
As I’ve written it is some one else that has earlier had the IP that I am on that has broken the rules and they have changed their IP and are on their merry way playing again almost instantly and I’m left here holding the bag.
That this is the default reply without even reading the issue is what I’m referring to as insane.

Did you even read my post? This is just a straight insult.
Apparently you can’t reply twice in a row on this really poorly coded forum so I’ve edited it in to 1 post. And to really take the piss I can’t even tag MissCheetah because that is a link and you can’t post links either. Who made this forum and in what century?
I get your frustration, but there is nothing that CS or Tech Support can do for you and the Devs are unlikely to change the current game coding.
That list is a list of what things trigger the IP ban. Beyond a fresh IP address and avoiding those, there is nothing more you can do about it.
That is not intended as an insult, it is simply how the system works.
So the game is broken and no one cares to fix it. Banning cheaters is fine but its not banning a single cheater to ban based on IP but is banning plenty of non cheaters. I’m not setting up a mobile phone connection just for D2 so I guess that’s an uninstall, it really was a great game back in the day.
Should just write that in the guide and probably stop selling keys to the game. Still selling things that are known to be broken is an insult, even though I know the new normal for game releases is nothing is really working till at least the second patch.
Broken implies that the IP bans are an accident, bug, or other error. They are not. They are intentional. D2 has worked this way for at least 5 years now, although it might be closer to 10. It was something the Hacks team put in place to fight cheaters and it is def not perfect. They know the drawbacks that come with using IP bans that can impact others with that IP, or who get that IP.
The 2 week bans DO drop off after the two week time period providing the person does not try to log back in during that period. Not much help though when you want to play a game.
My guess is something you are doing is triggering the IP ban, if it has happened more than once to you. If it was a one time thing, then hopefully the list of triggers can help you avoid them and you can play again in the future.
If you end up playing something else that is understandable. I would be upset too if I could not play my favorite game
