How do You guys enjoy WC2?

To all those that played the game even before the remaster was released. What did You mostly played, single player, multiplayer? Is there anything else to do?

Personally, I’ve mostly played only the campaigns, a few games via null modem with my brother just to see how it was, but just to try it out.
Speaking for myself, at the time multiplayer was a fairly secondary option and the campaigns and story were the games’ strong points.

So in the days of WC2BNE I would play scenarios when I didn’t have much time but you need to be very fast and rush the ai as it tends to cheat. If I had more time I’d play online mostly on custom maps like my own versions of chop maps made in the editor with sappers and flying disabled so you had to cut through the forest to your opponents. Made for some fun games when you had a defensive wall of towers to fight through and take them out but, limited gold resources meant you had gaps in your defense if you wanted to be able to invade and win. I did make a few easier versions of the maps as well for people that complained about having to plan their builds with multiple gold mines for each player in the corners where they started and a massive island of mines in the center. Really, you made your own fun in these games and just enjoyed them for what they were. Campaign was a nice change of pace now and then as well but nothing beat a great game online for me personally. I really hope they fix the lack of features in the remaster, I know BNE still exists but my old CD version is a bit hard to use these days without a working drive and modern cases tend to lack the bays required for an internal one anyway. I bought the remaster with high hopes and don’t really have the money for the one on bnet at the moment, kind of forgot they released it after the GoG release tbh.

Enjoy? Game cant be saved, constant pause on random - it is broken how can you enjoy it?

The whole point of Warcraft 2 is the multiplayer. It is the greatest RTS ever created. Campaign doesn’t matter at all. I probably won’t touch it.

I am a little bit sad that there wasn’t more effort put into it. They should have communicated with players from the Warcraft 2 community before releasing it. It NEEDS a modern ranking system. This is a priority.

I am also a little sad that this was just a side thing while presenting other Blizzard products. I wanted the remaster to be a presentation on its own. The newest and best thing released by Blizzard. Bring the Blizzard players back to the best game ever released by the company.

Thanks I needed that laugh.

What would you consider the greatest RTS of all time?

Nothing you’d enjoy if you consider a janky mirror-faction RTS to be the best ever.

ALMOST mirror-faction, Ogre Magi are objectively better units than Paladins.

I wouldnt call this the best RTS ever, but I would definitely call it my favorite. It has a great fantasy feel that I just havent seen replicated in any other RTS.

As for the topic of this forum, I mainly play the campaign. I never cared for competitive multiplayer in any RTS.

Umm, thats Starcraft, sit down son!

I did enjoy Starcraft as well. Would be my #2. I just enjoyed War2 a bit more, and it could be because I taught my IRL best friend how to play it, and we played for hours every day.

Red Alert 2 is the best (and by best I mean most mechanically fun) RTS I’ve played. Warcraft II was top notch in its day though, there was nothing janky about it. 90’s Blizzard games were absurdly polished for the time.

I’ve only ever played the campaigns and skirmish/custom games. I didn’t have an internet or other connection at the time so I just enjoyed the scenarios.
