I am writing this not as a casual player, but as a loyal fan of the franchise who has consistently purchased every update, expansion, and DLC in the most expensive, “Ultimate” editions. Unfortunately, the current direction of Diablo 4 is turning me from a passionate supporter into a vocal critic.
My frustration stems from the fact that the game has ceased to be entertainment and has become a frustrating, time-pressured marathon. Here are the primary reasons why I am considering abandoning your product entirely:
1. Aggressive FOMO and No Time for Fun: Seasons are designed in a way that a person with a job and a life has no chance to calmly create and max out a character without following streamers’ guides like a second job. Instead of the joy of the slaughter, I feel the stress of “not keeping up.”
2. Artificial Time-Gating (The “GTA Effect”): The collision hitboxes in the game (getting stuck on small stones, fences, or tiny terrain elements) feel like a deliberate tactic to slow down the player’s momentum. It reminds me of the worst AI traffic tricks in GTA Online. In a hack’n’slash, “flow” is everything – and you are destroying it.
3. No Room for “Casual Core” Players: You have forgotten about the people who have private lives and health issues, but still want to feel the power of their character. Currently, the game requires studying Excel spreadsheets rather than intuitive combat. Difficulty should come from Tier levels, not from absurd, time-pressured “impossible mechanics.”
4. Monetization vs. Quality: When I pay for Ultimate Editions, I expect quality and respect for my time. Instead, I receive a product that feels designed to annoy me and force me to stay logged in, rather than encouraging me with the pure fun that Diablo 3 provided.
Finally, I must address the difficulty of providing this feedback. It feels as though Blizzard is deliberately hiding from its community, making it nearly impossible to find a direct line of communication. It sends a message of: “Just play what we give you, we don’t care about your opinion.” As a customer who has invested significant money into your ecosystem, I find this lack of transparency insulting.
I am informing you that with the current approach, I do not intend to purchase the upcoming expansion or any future content. My wallet and my time are too valuable to fight against your “artificial obstacles.”
Sincerely,
A long-time fan of the franchise
