Just a follow up, looks like this was a hiccup from last night. It should be resolved now, but let us know if it comes back.
Nope…Still stuck at Checking versions…and times out to say Battle.net is not responding. Same problem from multiple computers.
This started for me last night and I just checked to find that it is still the same stuck at checking versions then failing to battle.net not responding message.

Same problem here with one of my computers (Mac), but not my PC weirdly enough, started ever since the servers went down last night. Can connect to US West, not East. Can use the same CD key and log in to the PC, but not the Mac and stuck on Checking Versions (No VPN’s, no firewalls, on a version of Mac that actually works for D2). Seems like all the symptoms of a temp restriction (14 to 30 days), I hope we don’t get punished for being online when they went down, and hope Blizz can fix this for the people who are about to get screwed for no reason.
Still cannot login. All other servers are working perfectly.

Please note that the checking versions error is entirely different than the server issue we were talking about previously. The servers are confirmed to be back up. If you’re still having problems, you’re having a different issue. Typically that is going to be caused by a temporary restriction, but you can contact support to check.
Please note that support does not remove temporary restrictions, but if this is caused by a technical issue we may be able to help you troubleshoot the cause.

UPDATE:
If you are having trouble connecting to USEast, check your game version in the bottom left of your screen. If it says anything besides 1.14D, please use the update found in this support article to manually update to 1.14D.
Afterwards, try connecting again.

The specific USEast issue from a couple days ago has been resolved. If you are still unable to connect, see this post from Bliz a few replies up.
Like stated, if you are under a temporary play restriction, support is unable to shorten/lift it. It just has to be waited out.
The issue is still prevalent. I can log in and play on the Europe servers, but I can’t log in and play on either US servers (East or West). seems to me to be a US server issue.
There is a long standing problem with USWest, so that’s not out of the ordinary. As for USEast, the deluge of reports stopped yesterday after about 8 hours, and there hasn’t been an influx of new reports since, so it’s not likely prevalent.
Can you connect to Asia?
I removed the D2 client from my iMac and then reinstalled the D2 client and the results were the EXACTLY the same. I can log into the Europe server and play the game, but not the US East, where I get to “Checking Versions”, and it stops there. Yes I can also log in to the Asian servers as well.
See the link to the Blue post above. “Checking Versions” is a different issue than what happened yesterday.
It’s possible you’re under a temporary play restriction on those realms. You can contact support to find out. If not, they can troubleshoot your connection.
